Syd Mead was a student of Alex Tremulis and designed a number of different things. He's probably best known for his work on
Tron and
Blade Runner, but like Alex, or Raymond Loewy, he designed a little bit of everything. Just found this blog post on a design of his for, quite literally, a land yacht, done in the mid-70s.

About the only elements of the design which have come to pass are the phones, electronic navigation system (though the land yacht was supposed to be self-driving), infrared camera, and the sophisticated audio-video system.
