Tucker Carioca

Postby Penguinspeedshop » Sun Nov 28, 2010 2:21 pm

We are new to the forum so first things first a warm hello from snowy wales in the UK . We are currently looking at recreating the Carioca . We are not looking to build a direct replicar but a similar themed vehicle based on our Buckland B3 chassis. We would welcome and assistance with specifications of the Carioca anybody may have wheelbase , Track any drawings or technical specifications . We are custom coach builders so will be looking to hand roll the body from aluminium

Many thanks for your help in advance

regards

Now that gets me excited! I'm sure you've seen the December 1955 Car Life Magazine article. It seems like it would be very difficult to put a rear engine in this body design. Not impossible, but not easy either.

I'll check with my friends in Brazil and see if they have anything else.

Many thanks for your replies . We started to scale up off the pictures assuming an average man in the 50's was 5ft10 tall we can determine the height length and track . We will be doing some renderings to give us an idea of the final shape I have an original flat 6 helicopter engine from tuckers original suppliers which would be great to fit . Rear engine would be difficult but mid engine and transaxle would fit well from first impressions. Its the drive and suspension that will be the most difficult to reproduce . We will post our progress

once again many thanks for your help

Is the engine you have a Tucker engine or a Franklin engine? Also is it air or water cooled?
If it is a Tucker engine can you tell us the serial number off of it? It's located on the top
of the block at the rear of the motor next to where the distributor goes in. It will be a
5 digit number starting with 335.

Thanks !

Good deal. Grab a couple pictures if you can of the motor and the serial number. It should look like this:

Welcome Penguinspeedshop, I hope you keep us informed with your progress. it is sad to say that many people have talked about doing projects simular to the one you are attempting and for some reason or another very few actually get anywhere with it. I wish you and your crew much luck and I hope you will stay an active member of this board.

Many thanks for your support . We hand make our cars in the old fashioned way hard work and english wheels so the body is not a worry . What is a worry is creating something that is a reasonable representation of the original that we can get through our VOSA testing to allow it on the road. We are interested in the suspension does anybody have any details of what was planned for the original. Its a strong part of the design .

I am unsure as to why people have failed the body is a piece of cake . Its the suspension that will ruin the look if not right we are experimenting with torsion bars and internal shocks which we use on our B3

Many thanks
