So says this article on the unstaked vampire convertible: http://www.beloitdailynews.com/articles ... 060501.txt

A third explanation recently surfaced on a Tucker discussion board related to the convertible. According to this theory, Preston Tucker ordered that two of the body shells be altered as props to show the grand jury as proof of his intentions to establish an ongoing manufacturing operation. One was to be a supposed 1949 prototype and the other a convertible.

The purported props were never needed and were kept hidden away until long after litigation was finished, according to this theory.

So how long before that shows up?

I am not aware of any other Tucker Discussion Boards. Is this something someone posted here sarcastically?

Notice that it says "discussion board related to the convertible" meaning Justin Cole's site promoting his story about the 'vert.

I guess I'm the source for that one: http://www.tuckerclub.org/bbs3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1803&start=15

With not one, but two new models in the prototype stage, surely he could show a stronger defense that he intended to produce a full line of cars.

Since no defense was required at the trial, the convertible and the modified ’49 model just sat there, waiting to be disposed of. The last-minute theatrics of bringing those cars into the courtroom wasn’t required.

...but they forgot this part:

The characters and events depicted in this reply are fictitious. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

and the best part:

However, the photographer was a bit nervous about the deal they had made and wanted to ensure his safety following the meeting, so he secretly photographed Tucker’s payoff man in the men’s restroom where the payoff of an undisclosed amount of cash “or other services rendered” was made.

I 'd think now it's only a matter of time before the 'shopped photos end up in a story.

Sorry about that, Zombie Tucker!

I hate to sound like a grouch, but this is the problem with "journalism" today. Everything is quick-fix -- blogosphere this, and iReport that. No one freakin' reads anymore.

As a sidenote, no one takes the time to appreciate satire. Due to brains damaged by multitasking, so many miss the point, or worse yet, interpret it as "truth" (and not "truth spoken in jest"). I guess I wasted my entire undergrad years learning about multiple, independent sourcing, and an antiquated lil' thing called journalistic ethics

How about the 1949 Tucker Tote Pickup? There are rumors there was also a 2 door wagon.

The wagon rumors were unfounded. It turns out someone was using their Tote Pickup as a camper...

Rumor has it there was a weight distribution problem, so the passenger seat was removed to accomodate the the wrinkle nose brown trout storage tank! Oh well, the kiddies and the family puppy can ride in the topper!
If you didn't get dirty, then nothing was accomplished!

The Tucker Tote Topper was another item in the long list of accessories that you could buy to get a sequence number.
There were not many Tucker Tote Toppers sold as it was added to the accessory list just before the plant shut down.
That is why you don't see it as an option on most accessory lists and only two were actually sold. The one in the photo
and a "convertible" model which disappeared from the plant but was recently discovered by former Tucker accountant
Mel Koeppoen just before he passed away. The present owner planned to have it at the convention in Atlanta last week
but just as it was being prepared to leave the owner received a call from the White House asking if it could be used as
emergency housing for the oil workers in the gulf. At present it is on its way to the drilling site in the gulf after it was
fitted with special pontoon floats. I guess we'll have to wait until next years convention to see it. That is if the leak is
stopped by then otherwise it'll be 2012..2013..2014...whenever they get it plugged.
