I have the Chrysler Norseman concept car in my backyard. It is stored in my swimming pool until I get around to restoring it. The kids are not allowed to dive in head first so they won't damage the delicate one-off sheetmetal. They do enjoy bouncing on the seats though. Maybe the people who transported Keiko to his new aquarium will help me ship it to Justin Cole....I hear he is good at restoring/conjuring up long lost concept cars...

Psst! I don't want to get you all upset or anything, but maybe you should know that an awful lot of Ford's first cars were built by Dodge. ;)

I understand your confusion, but what I said was:
streamliner wrote:Technically not a "Chrysler" for this year...

To further clarify: Although made by Chrysler (the corporation), the 1958 Imperial was not a "Chrysler" (note quotation marks) Imperial. The quotations means that it's not called a "Chrysler". From various sources:

"For the 1955 model year, the Imperial was launched and registered as a separate marque, apart from the Chrysler brand. It was a product of the new Imperial Division of Chrysler Corporation, meaning that the Imperial would be a make and division unto itself, and no longer bear the Chrysler name."

"In 1955 Chrysler spun off the Imperial as its own separate marque in an attempt to compete directly with the Cadillac and Lincoln luxury marques offered by General Motors and Ford, respectively, rather than the traditional Chrysler competitors Buick and Oldsmobile. Imperial as a marque was always sold in Chrysler dealerships and never in distinct Imperial dealerships (which were never set up), so the nameplate failed to separate itself as its own marque as a consequence. "

"Chrysler has given the Imperial a distinctive body style for 1955, making it a separate line from Chryslers."

So, I stand by the clues as given:

Funny you say that..When Henry Ford was approached about building closed body cars he quipped "No one in their right mind would ride behind that much glass." I wonder what changed his mind? Ironically, it was a Ford engineer who invented the safety glass that is now in every car windshield! Go figure..

I am aware of the history of the attempts to make Imperial a standalone brand, but it's still a Chrysler just like a Lincoln is a Ford.

I had a trivia question put to me once: "In what year did each of the Big Three automobile manufacturers have five (and only five) automobile brands apiece (excludes truck-only and non-U.S. brands). To show your work, name the 15 brands. PS, I'm told that I was correct, but this may open up a whole other can of worms...

I was going to post a similar trivia question, but I think I'll start a new thread devoted just to that (might liven this place up a bit). See here: http://www.tuckerclub.org/bbs3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1884
