Hello all.

I was wondering if the Stone Mountain Museum, home of #1015, is still open. I visited a couple of summers ago and the place was deserted except for the owner, and I noticed that their website has been down for some time.

I'm pretty sure it's still there - Alton Brown just did a segment of Feasting on Asphalt from the Tucker.

The man that started the museum was Tommy Protsman. He died in 2000, heres a link to more info on him. http://mmd.foxtail.com/Archives/Digests ... 15.02.html

I met this man many years ago around 1986. He was a interesting fellow and have fond memories of the times I talked with him. I started out in coin opperated amusement repairs. I was working that summer in a amusement shop in McMinnville Tennessee when he stopped by. He would go around the country in his rv and pull a huge trailer that he would buy old jukeboxes and other memoribilia. We talked then a few hours. He would head out in the rv and go all over the country and head back when the trailer was full. Then after I was married I went down there and got to see him again in the early 90s. We probably talked a few hours then. He even had some spare Tucker parts,I almost bought a complete Tucker radio still in the box. I could have kicked myself for not buying it now. He would rework these amusement machines and thats how he made a living. That museum was a masterpiece of all things mechanical. If you are in the Atlanta area I highly suggest going to the museum if it is still open. It is probably one of the best ones I have ever seen that has all kinds of mechanical devices. Even though most of it relates to amusement devices and other things of that nature it also has many rare autos.

I visited Stone Mountain a couple of years ago and was impressed by the collection, but not by the upkeep--most of the musical instruments were broken and in very poor condition. It's a shame that either the funding or the manpower isn't there to keep "the fleet" going.

Similarly, the cars were covered in a fine layer of dust, including the Tucker, and none appeared to have been moved in a long time.

Still a fascinating place, and one of the instruments that worked, a Mortier orchestrion, was alone worth the trip.
