Unknown Tuckers still in Minnesota?

Postby Paul » Fri Dec 24, 2004 1:19 pm

Where can I see a Tucker car in Minnesota? I do know that someone in Little Falls did own a Tucker car at one time but I am not sure if it was one of the original 51, or if it was an uncompleted car from the Chicago assembly line that was completed at a later time with a different drivetrain. There was a Tucker dealer in St. Paul that did have one car, but I do not know that fate of that car. Does anyone know anything else about the Tuckers of Minnesota?

Tucker's in Minnesoto

At one time David Lares owned Tucker Serial Number 1011. He lived in Anoka, Minn. Car was Beige and had Tucker Paint Number 400. Mr. Lares passed away and the car was sold in 1987 to the present owner in Montana.
At one time Tucker Serial number 1028 was owned by Bob Turner of Hopkins, Minn. I believe he may have purchased it at the auction or shortly there after. It changed hands several times and is now in the museum in Tupelo, Miss.

William Lund Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn. owned Tucker Serial Number 1032 and he either sold it to or purchased it from Bob Turner. It was sold to Harrah's Museum in Reno, NV.

Tucker Serial Number 1034 was sold at factory auction on 11/14/50 to a James A. Anderson of Minneapolis, MN.

Tucker Serial Number 1040 was at one time owned by Bob Turner.
Richard Jones provided very helpful comments about early Tucker car owners in Minnesota. I have been trying to sort out such owners for years. Several months ago I returned to the Federal Archives in Chicago to again go over bankruptcy records associated with the company to see if I could better clarify the ownership trail of up to four cars sold at the auction to buyers from Minnesota. Besides the people Richard mentioned, Daniel J. Ehlenz, of Bear Lake MN, was a Tucker dealer who testified in the criminal trial that he had driven a Tucker car he had bought from the factory to the trial and it had over 10,000 miles on it. I do not know which car he owned. Stan Gilliland shared with me that Erza Schlipf, an Illinois owner of several Tucker cars and numerous parts, was contacted by a R. H. Mohrbacker of Minneapolis who was looking for transmissions for a "couple of cars he bought" at the auction. I can still find no mention of a Mohrbacker in bankruptcy records. So, anyone out there able to help us better solve the challenge of Minnesota owners with these additional facts on the table?
David Lares of Anoka MN owned Tucker Serial Number 1011.It had been stored from 1959 to 1987. When I talked with him in the 70's it was not for sale. At that time the odometer read 677 but since Mr. Lares had testified at the trial that he had run the car over 10,000 miles, I would think that the 677 miles is actually 100667 and the odometer had turned over.
Tucker 1011 has Engine Serial Number 33514 and had a Cord transmission. It was sold 20 June 1987 for $65,000.00 to the current Montana owner.
Where to see aTucker

Once again I want to correct an error in my last message. This Tucker Serial Number 1011 at the time of Tucker's trial was owned by Daniel J. Ehlenz as noted above by Larry Clark. David Lares purchased the car from him.
Check "Old Cars Weekly" magazine. They have an article this week about #1006 (I think) that was in a MN parknig garage for many years, now owned by Mark Hyman in St. Louis.
