Wow, Jeremy! That's quite an ambitious agenda! Sounds like a trip I'd like to take sometime.

I've visited some of the sites you list here. Preston's former home address is 110 North Park Street in Ypsilanti, MI. It's visible from Michigan Avenue/ U.S. 12, just north of the car parts shop on Park Street.

You could check out the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Collection while you're in Ypsi. It's in Depot Town, on Cross Street at the railroad tracks. They have a nice section on Tucker, and a replicar from the movie. Talk to Jack Miller for some great stories. By the way, the town name is pronounced "Ip-sih-LAN-tee", or "IPP-zee". Some folks aren't sure.

Ypsilanti Tool Company is long gone, but some of it was located where Marsh Plating Company now stands.

Have fun!

Here is his house. The plating plant is the big building behind the lot. You can see the remnants of a driveway in the back. Was there a garage there or was the machine shop actually in his back yard?

waltzblue, I see you are taking quite a trip. It appears you will be East of Colorado, but you are more than welcome to see Preston (1017) in Parker, CO.

Thanks for the detailed advice John- that is the sort of valuable information that I was looking for.

Cicero- I will have to take a number of pictures and I certainly have no problem asking locals for details so that should be fun stop- thanks for the info!

Keith I have to describe my wife's reaction to your post. I told her the there was a Tucker in Colorado and that well, we were already going to be on the road 1,000 miles from home...so what's another 600. She gave me that look that seems like no but doesn't really mean it. We live in Eastern West Virginia but the invite is more than tempting. Who knows I may make it out there this summer. That's the problem with seeing a Tucker there is this unquenchable feeling that can't be satisfied until I've seen them all.

I will post dates and destinations when I have them all together and maybe I can finally meet up with other folks who just nuts about Tuckers.

Cicero:
The building behind the house was a machine shop, and upstairs was the engineering department. The roof looked like a barn roof. That building burned to the ground several years ago. I remember seeing it a couple of times before it burned. The house and "barn" were a sightseeing stop during the Ypsilanti TACA convention in 1997. We didn't get to go inside, though, as the buildings were occupied at the time.

Jeremy, we will be attending six car events this summer and will be showing a car the last of August in Washington state. If you were to be here before we leave we would make you an offer we hardly ever make. If the weather was nice, Eileen would give you a ride in a Tucker. I have heard that someone paid something like $300 for a Tucker ride and yours would be free.

This is a reply to jnbgoch. We will be attending the Le May car event on August 27th. We are taking the Fascination (not the Tucker). It will be placed on a turn table as one of the featured cars. Preston (#1017) will be staying in his show room.

Guarded by an attack dog in the slight chance you get past the AK 47s that are attached to the motion sensors that surround Keith's entire property. Just an FYI in case someone has a stupid idea.

Keith,
I would have loved to have come out to both see and ride in a Tucker. There is just not enough time this summer with all that we have going on. I can't tell you how big the smile on my face would be if I ever actually get to experience that. Maybe next summer if the offer still stands.

Here are the dates that I will be going around to places if anyone would like to meet up and talk Tucker.

All of my stops will be verified again closer to the date and I am aware that Stahl's will be changing venues but their updated information will not be released until June.

Jeremy

Sounds like the trip of a life time.

1001, 1022, 1026 - You likely know about the Dave Cammack collection in Alxeandria with 3 Tuckers and much more. This is by appointment only 703-836-4520

1025 - Frankfort Indiana- / The Goodwin Collection is a private collection that would also need to make an apointment to see. Depending on there work schedule they may or may not be able to accomidate the visit.

1012 - La Porte, Indiana- this is no longer the Door Prarie Auto Museum but is the Door Prarie County Museum that does have several cars on display. #1012 is one of them. I would check their open days / hours so you don't miss seeing it.

Tucker Factory - Chicago, the orginial factory was located at 7401 Cicero Ave. - Today this once gigantic complex is home to Ford City Mall, Tootsie-Roll (they DO NOT have tours) and the National Archives - Great Lakes Region, as well as storage facilities and other firms. You can stop in the mall and still see the columns that you see in factory photos. Also take a drive around the entire site to get an idea how huge the facility was (about 500 acres!)

1008 -Chicago, - While not typically on public display you may wish to contact this collection to see if you might be able to visit it while on your way to WI

1048 - I understand this privately owned car is currently on display at the Hartford Museum but I would contact them to make sure.

Tucker "convertible" / aka "Tucker without a roof" - I'm not sure the status of this vehicle or where it currently is at. You should contact them directly to see if it is available to see.

1047 -Hickory Corners, Michigan- Gilmore Car Museum (open every day) www.GilmoreCarMuseum.org Tucker #1047 (with about 50 miles onit) is on display along with the the Tucker Automoible Club of America's own Tucker Historical Collection and Library - the Offical Tucker Archives. Here you will find a recreated Tucker sales office complete with many rare Tucker artifacts. If you arrive during the week (and can make prior arrangements) Myself or the museum's Archivest would be able to give you a glimpse at some of the Tucker holdings in the archives. The museum itself displays over 200 vehicles (1898 cars and motorcycles to 2009) in several historic buildings. You could easily spend 3 - 4 hours there or more.

Tucker #1047 will be featured at the Bay Harbor June 24 - 26, 2011 and will NOT be on display at the Gilmore during that weekend.

1015 St. Clair Shores, Michigan- This car is currently in the restoration shop and not on display within the Stahl Collection. You may have to make an appointment to see the remainder of the collection.
http://www.stahlsauto.com/

1016 Dearborn, Michigan- The Henry Ford / Greenfield Village. #1016 is on display and is considered one of the most original Tuckers out there as it has never been restored. This museum is a huge complex and you could easily spend the day (or two) here.

While in Ypsi also check out the RM Auctions showroom and you may be able to make arrangements to visit RMs restoration facility in Chatam, Ontario Canada where they are currently restoring #1046.

Hope this helps fill in the gaps for you. ENJOY!

Like Jay said 1015 is out for restoration. I am eagerly awaiting its return as the Stahls museum is a mile from my house. I believe they are only open to the public one day a week so call ahead.

As for 1016 plan on spending a whole day at the Henry Ford museum. You will be glad you did. The building itself is even a historical artifact. In fact if you have time you could spend 3 days there. Next to the museum is Greenfield Village. Look it up on line as I am sure it is something you would be interested in. Also as part of the museum is the Ford Rouge tour. You can tour the assembly plant where they currently build the F-150. Again check ahead for days and times because they are limited.

Does anyone else find it interesting that 15 and 16 landed so close together. The drive from the Stahls to the Henry Ford Museum is approx 15 minutes.

If you want to send me a message closer to your arrival day I can clue you in to some local car events going on too.
