1004 at Toyota

Postby Prototype » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:39 pm

It seems Tucker 1004 has disappeared form the Toyota museum in Japan. A checking of their lists shows the car is not on any register of their possessions. Perhaps it has been returned to it owner if the museum did not actually own it. Any updates or thoughts from anyone? On a lighter note; Since it is possibly the most valuable car in their livery, maybe it was sold to pay for some troublesome accelerator pedals? Hybrid break pads? Maybe Mr.Toyoda is driving it in until his Prius is repaired? Just wondering.......If I had a choice between a Prius and a Tucker, Well, let's just say the prius belongs on the golf course!

Maybe they took it over to the R&D department? Who knows, maybe in a couple years we will see a 3 eyed rear engine Toyota, and a few years after that they may release a convertible version!

It always worries me when a rare car goes missing, you never what might be done with it or to it. on a firearm forum I attend there was a fella that loaned an all correct and matching M1917 Winchester to his cousin to use for hunting. When his cousin returned the rifle to him at the end of the hunting season he forund out that in order to show his appreciation his cousin sporterised the Winchester buy shortening the barrel and choping the stock and having a deer carved into the but stock. when all was said and done the rifle that started out being worth 800.00+ was now worth about 200.00 at most. I have seen the same thing done with cars many times and it makes me sick, lets just hope that it 1004 is alright.

Jeez, talk about digging up an old thread.

For some reason it has never been on the museum's site but it is still there.

Sorry, I didn't realize this was an old thread. I was just checking their site, so I thought I would ask. 1) Considering I don't speak Japanese and Tucker sounds too close to a certain other word. 2) since I only drive on the right side of the road and it would probably cost $20.00 to call and ask about it anyway, I thought I would ask the experts here, TuckerCar among them. Hmmm..... I wonder what Tucker would translate into Brasilianese or whatever it is. I guess that question would be for a waxing salon site.

Hello,

I just visited Toyota Automobile Museum and took some pictures.
http://tucker.husuma.com/

When I tried to confirm the engine serial number, I checked the stamp down next to the distributor, where the engine serial number should be.

I can read the following.
4-22-48
ALCOA
EX-1000
X-103507

I guess that #1004 may have #335XX, but I can not find such a number.
Did I checked the wrong place?

JP,

I'm impressed that you were able to get such great pictures. From my limited knowledge #1004 had
an early engine which could still be in the car. These engines had one or two digits in them. The engine
that I have listed for #1004 is Engine #6. I don't know if the numbers were located in a different place
then the later engines that had the 335xx numbers. I'm pretty sure Richard Jones would know this car
as it once belonged to Ray Burton. Maybe he'll be kind enough to jump in and let you know for sure.

I was reading the April 1992 issue of Tucker Topics this morning and found an ad from Al Reinert for motor #6.
My records don't show Engine 33506 as accounted for anywhere so I don't know if he had motor #6 or #33506.
Al bought a lot of parts from a lot of people. Hopefully there is someone that knows if engine #6 is still in #1004
or if it was removed and, if so, where it is today. Here is the ad:

Every time I see that name now I cringe.
