Question to Richaard about Engine 33579

Postby Larry Clark » Sat Sep 30, 2006 5:12 pm

Richard: I would ordinarily send you a private email to ask you this question but the board has been slow lately and I think others might also like to hear your story. I hope you will not mind sharing with the board.

I was going through a March 1956 Motor Trend magazine this afternoon and found an ad by you for engine 33579 that was listed to still be in the original crate for sale for $750.

I think this engine was installed by Russ Brownell in #1040 after it was purchased by J. B. Nethercutt (the car is still in the museum he founded). However, it was nearly 20 years after your ad that Nethercutt bought #1040. If I have the facts correct so far, the question is to whom did you sell 33579 and when?

I do not find 33579 on the bankruptcy inventory list. I would love to know how you came to own the engine.

Engine 33579

Postby plancor 792 » Sat Sep 30, 2006 8:02 pm

Larry, always good to hear from you. This one stumps me. I do not recall ever having an engine in a crate for sale. This engine 33579 I have listed as a spare that Bill Harrah had that was sold and later put into Tucker 1040 by Russ Brownell. I have no idea how long Harrah had it or when and where he got it. I also do not know when he sold it. Would you email me a copy of that for sale in Motor Trend? Harrah also had engines 33568 and 33571.

I read the ad too quickly. Close name, not you.

Richard: I read the ad too quickly. The seller is a Richard C Jones, a different middle name. I saw that the address was California but I presumed you must have worked in California for a while before Florida. The mystery of the path of the engine continues. My apology for my confusion. Larry

The copy of the ad is below:

"Notice Tucker Owners. I have a new, complete Tucker spare engine #335-79, 2nd & last sries engine, water cooled, 6-cyl. opposed. Still in orig. crate; ready to run. $750. Richard C. Jones, 4212 LaRica Ave., Baldwin Park, CA."
