Who killed Tucker?

Postby Ganaraska » Mon Oct 17, 2005 10:41 pm

Tucker himself stated, and others confirmed, that there was a group of men who deliberately set out to stymie Tucker's business efforts and put him out of business.

Can anyone tell me who they were and give me some details about this? I have seen the Tucker movie where they put the blame on Senator Homer Ferguson. Have also heard that columnist Drew Pearson had it in for Tucker and that some magazine did a hatchet job on Tucker, which was picked up by Reader's Digest. Tom McCahill stated that he was fired by Reader's Digest for sticking up for Tucker.

Have followed the Tucker story for years, have read The Indomitable Tin Goose, unfortunately this was many years ago and don't remember the details.

Any good information would be appreciated. Please no speculation or conspiracy theories. I don't believe the Big 3 had any interest in putting Tucker out of business. He was about as much threat to them as a kid's lemonade stand is to McDonald's restaurants. Quite the contrary, it was in their interest to keep the independents in business to stave off antitrust action from Washington.

So can anyone name names or give some facts on this matter?

And, Tom, there's some disagreement as to the exact cause of death. One of Tucker's sons saw the medical reports and according to him, they revealed that he had no trace of lung cancer, thus it would have been pneumonia which killed him (not an uncommon death). No autopsy was performed, so we'll never know for certain.
