RE: Wrecked Tucker

I'm writing a book about my childhood, and I wanted to know if anyone could help me. My father owned a salvage yard in Marion, IL called Smitty's. He bought it in the early 70's and when he did, we had a wrecked Tucker in the yard. To my knowledge, there were only two of them like that at the time. None the less, the car had been there for 20+ years. Then one day, it was gone. I don't know how it could have left the property, but it did.

Does anyone know anything about this mystery car. I don't want the car, and I'm not making any claim to it, but I'd like to know how that car left the yard. My father has long been done with that salvage yard, but I think about this car from time and time and I'm curious about it.

Thanks....david

I don't know what happened to it, but it sounds like it was one of the never completed Tucker bodies that was allowed to rot away in a field.

RE: The Wrecked Tucker

No, absolutely not. This wasn't a body of a Tucker that just magically arrived twenty years prior to my dad buying the place. I called him this morning, after I read this post. He wasn't sure about the year, model, or color, as well as where it had been hit. This was a long time ago, and we had thousands of cars. But, he was sure that it was a production car.

Whoever took that car would have had to have a flatbed truck or heavy duty wrecker to get in and out the back without anyone ever noticing. This car was located in the back corner of the field. Clearly, it didn't leave through the front gate. Whoever took it would also have had to have a crew as well. Time would have been working against them and the terrain was rough. I don't know much, but I know this. I lived there and I knew that yard fairly well. I played in it everyday.

Surely someone knows something about this car. There's not that many of them, and people talk. This car is just one piece to a very big puzzle that I'm trying to figure out...david
