car history

Postby jobuckshomecom » Fri Mar 30, 2001 5:06 pm

I was wondering if there is a history of the cars. Has anyone, as much as would be possible, been able to get the histories of the cars, such as whom the owners originally were, the next owner etc. The reason I ask is because a man from our town supposedly purchased a Tucker in 1948. His name was Ervin Zehr. I was wondering if the car that he owned is one of the "survivors" today. I've tried to get information about this man and/or the car and can't seem to find anything out. I presently have the "complete" radio system, boxes-radio head-antennae-speaker-and the mounting misc(in paper bags)nuts, bolts, washers etc. and also the heater for the car. with all its misc. in boxes etc. The boxes are rough, from age, and being stored, but the "tags" show that the items were shipped from Tucker Corp. on Cicero Ave. and the number of pieces shipped and the weight and shipped to Mr. Zehr at his home street address, and a date of 1-3-1949. I have come to learn that there have been "pieces" such as radios sold on the open market and they are referred to as "orphaned" pieces. NOS overstock that was made for "future" cars. But I thought that if the car that Mr. Zehr purchased was one of those still in existence then possibly someone would like to have these pieces because of the names, dates, etc: and the affiliation they would have with that car. Evidently, Mr. Zehr, purchased the car without the radio and heater installed and they sent them to him so they could be installed. Or he wanted "extras", which seems unreasonable. Anyway I've included my email address in this posting. If anyone has any interest in this or if you would like to give me whatever information is available please contact me. Thank you very much!
Tucker radio

Postby Bruce » Thu Apr 26, 2001 9:50 am

I bought a 1961 dodge pickup with a tucker radio mounted in it. The old man I purchased the truck from, several years ago, said he ordered a tucker car and the dealer gave him the radio to hold until the car arrived, then the dealer would install the radio. Well, the car never arrived and he kept the radio in the box until 1961. His new dodge didn't have a radio in it, so, he installed the tucker radio in it. He said it worked fine. I haven't started to restore the truck yet or put power to it so I have not heard it play. I think the tucker was a 6 volt system and the dodge is a 12 volt, don't know if that would hurt it or not. Any way, my point was, the old man told me when you ordered a tucker they gave you a radio until the car came in. I don't know about the heater.....

Volts

If indeed the radio is a 6 volt system, and the '61 pickup mis 12 volts, I would not mix them together, that radio will probably not last too long with double the rated voltage applied. I am an electrician for Delta Airlines, and I have seen many over-voltage mishaps in my times.

your parts

What you probable have is a radio sold by the Tucker Corp. to help raise money to start production of the car. From the research I've done, I've found out that they sold some accesories for the car before it went into prodcution to help raise money to start production and that was one of the resons the goverment brought the fraud charges against Mr. Tucker. Hopes this helps.
P.S. Do not hook a 6 volt radio to a 12 volt system without a voltage converter, it will burn the radio out. You can buy one at any auto store.

Postby B Bellinger » Thu Aug 25, 2005 4:12 pm

These two brass hammers were used in the assembly of tucker auto glass in the original glass company, contracted by tucker.
