Old Cars Weekly looking for #1023

The Old Cars Weekly April 21st issue has a letter to the editor about a Tucker that was spotted in Syracuse NY. The writer hoped to find out which number car he saw and where it is now. I contacted him and Old Cars Weekly with the answer which you'll see below.

The Tucker in the photo is Tucker #1023. Sadly the car was destroyed in a fire on 9/29/1978 in Deland FL. The fire got so hot much of the rear of the car was melted together. The firemen later moved a steel beam which dropped across the front of the car.

One of our Tucker Club founders, Richard Jones of Florida, bought the remains and salvaged the remaining usable parts off of the car. Legend has it that what was left after that was crushed and was buried under his garage.

Here are pictures of the car in 1974 and after the fire in 1978. (photos and history courtesy of Richard Jones)

Thanks to Richard, I have a few more original pictures of the 'end days' of 1023.

Brad, you are correct. That is Tucker 1023. I have photos of it showing that lower front grill on the drivers side missing when I had the car for several months. The remains were taken to a crusher and my son and his friends dreamed up that they were under my garage. I was in the hospital at that time. My garage was finished a few years prior to my getting the remains of 1023. The remains of Tucker 1023 are probably on the road somewhere in a Toyota, Honda or Nissan.
