Just a clarification: That should be the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88, not F-85. The 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car apparently did belong to "the" E. L. Cord at one time, but also apparently in pieces in crates. The Oldsmobile F-85 was a "compact" platform introduced in 1961 alongside the Buick Special and Pontiac Tempest complimenting the Corvair. It ultimately spawned the Cutlass. Back to the trivia board with thee!

In case anyone was further interested...
Pratt also owns (still?) the '54 Pontiac Bonneville Special concept sold at BJ the year after the F-88.

The consensus of those who study this (namely David Temple in his book 'GM's Motorama') is that 3 F-88s were built, plus a 4th body... which may have come off of Harley Earl's F-88 #2, which was restyled in '57 into the F-88 Mk II. Few histories in this vein are ever straightforward & well-documented... but Temple does point to the B-J F-88 as having been assembled from the crated parts once sold to E L Cord (and having subsequently gone thru 14 other owners). F-88 #3 supposedly burned.

Sorry about the F-85 notation, slip of the hand.
F-88 is correct and the Car leaving GM by Harley Earls command is where we pick up what happened and why in the Harris Speedster story.
Much to be said about why the F-88 was tore apart, shipped and sent to Cord in California.

Our research is heavy on the infant years of the SCCA at this time because of Ben's high involvement.

Much to be added about why other early concept cars of Harleys were sent to infant SCCA race tracks that Ben organized and officiated at. As a tid bit to this story, Ben ""threw the flag and dropped the flag"" as an official, organizer and stock holder at the Inaugaral race at Road America.

This drop of the Flag and Finish Flag picture is on current day Road America's Main Web Page and Site.

Also found out that the last Natioanl street race at Watkins Glenn was the Queen Catherine Cup race, a painting was later done of the front rows highly unusual start, Ben is the pole driver in this famous painting !!

In closing, Ben pictured behind the Flagman at the start of the Cuban race in 1957, the next year, 1958, it was marred by an accident causing the race to be stopped and Juan Fangio being Kidnapped by >>>> Castro's people before the over throw of President Batesta.
Earlier, there is the 1953 Golden Gate race in California that Jim Kimberly and Ben >>>

By the way, the picture I mentioned in a post about seeing a Tucker with no plate on the front at a 1950-1 early race, that is in early Elkhart Lake race archives. The Tucker had to of had a dealer plate on the back bumper.

Search Elkhart Lake archives, not Road America archives, I had the picture of the Tucker, had a systems crash by a lightening hit and lost it>>
