Which Car Am I ?

Postby Tucker Fan 48 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 1:12 pm

I don't recall seeing the answers as to which cars these are. Please forgive me if I somehow missed the thread.

This was said to have been taken in August of 1950 in Los Angeles, CA. That would be before the auction at the plant.
It appears to be an early Waltz Blue car. I'm guessing it is #1010 or #1014. Bill Hamlin said he purchased #1014 in 1952.

The lot at 6048 Hollywood Blvd is still a car dealership today but there are no Tuckers on the lot.

This was taken around 1954 in Berkley, CA. Which car could this be? It does not appear to be black or I would
guess it was #1021 or #1041.

I don't know when the first two of these ads were from.

This one is from Maurice Otten in Anaheim, CA.

This one is from John Spatafora in St Louis, MO. Could this have been Tucker #1036? Wayne McKinley of
O'Fallon, IL. ended up with #1036. St Louis, MO. and O'Fallon, IL are only 20 miles apart.

This one is Tucker #1008. It was prior to July 10th 1951. Who was the owner in Covina, CA.?
Interesting it had a new engine and new tires. It was a two tone car, chartreuse and black
although it left the factory with paint code #400.There was a new spare engine and a used
engine available.

Willis Jones. He did not sell it then. He sold 1008 in 1967 to Les Sheaffer. Jones, already owning 1008, purchased Tucker engines 33559 through 33572 at the bankrupcty auction. The engines were yet in crates from Air-Cooled Motors. And, before someone asks, no, he was not related to the co-founder of TACA, Richard Jones. Having spent some time with Willis Jones years ago, I can tell you that he knew well the Tucker car. He was a colorful guy.

Wow, So the story about Engine #33573 is true then..

The man that has it is very elderly. He says that a friend of his bought 14 of them at the auction they had been part
of the Tucker inventory. He got this engine from him. Not sure what happened to the other 13. From looking at the other
posts I would guess that they were parted out. He has had the engine ever since.

If Willis Jones bought 33559 through 33573 (and not 33572) he would be the person in the 14 engine story unless someone
else bought that many engines. Three of the engines in that group ended up with Dave Cammack, 33561 in #1022, 33564 in #1001,
and 33565 in #1026. I know Richard Jones worked on two of the cars for Dave. Did Richard put the motors in the cars and, if so,
did he buy them from Willis Jones or someone else? Two more of the engines in that group, 33568 and 33571, ended up with
Bill Harrah. Engine 33572 is in Willis Jones old car #1008.

I think you are right- Willis Jones had to purchase 33459 through 33573. I have in front of me what Willis wrote out that actually says 1059 through 1072 (he meant 33559 through 33572). However, I am very confidant that he purchased sequential motors, that 33559 was the first so just adding 14 to this number would get you to 33573. Your story is complete. You now know the seller of 33573.

I just talked with the third owner of #33573 and he finally sold it. I'll get an update
from him on it's new home. One more piece of the giant never ending puzzle. :)

Still somewhat unaccounted for from the 14 engines Willis Jones bought are 33559, 33560,
33562, 33563, 33566, 33567, 33569, and 33570.
