I am aware that the meeting between PT & Howard Hughes never took place & was movie license, but apparently the end result was really achieved with a phone call from Hughes. My question is : Hughes stated that Ferguson was out to get him as well--- as far as I know Owen Brewster was the one causing most of Howards problems.
The only connection I can find between Ferguson & Brewster is cooperating on a bill to do with, I believe ,Social Security , or some similar item.
Did Ferguson help Brewster in attackinhg Hughes?

From what I can remember, Ferguson was a first class sleaze and was either a member of the committee going after Hughes or was involved in a separate investigation of Hughes. Don't forget that Hughes had his fingers is a number of pies, and was involved not only in building aircraft, but ships, film making, and a host of other operations. Given that Hughes was starting to become pretty paranoid at this point, anyone who so much as poked a metaphorical stick at him would have been considered a lethal threat to him.
