I am doing some Tucker research this afternoon and have come across a very interesting newspaper article from back in 1988, the time of the Tucker movie, that featured a former Tucker employee by the name of Orville Moberly. He tells a story of the troubles that Tucker Corporation was having finding a source to make the instrument panels for the car. Ultimately, he made them at the plant. He said he made 47 of the 50 Tucker instrument panels. As he completed creating each one, he put the number, date and his initials “O.M.” on the back of each one. I have never had the opportunity to see the reverse of an instrument panel- it would be interesting to know if his recollection is accurate (there are a couple of things in the story where his recollection is likely not fully accurate). He left the company when employees got laid off in the summer of 1948. He said someone else completed the last three instrument panels. He provides recollections of days at the plant.
