TUCKER FACTS

Postby billie » Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:36 am

I'm new to this forum but I have allways been a Tucker fan. I recently bought a Tucker radio on Ebay from a guy in Canada (Ontario). Yesterday evening I called him because I wanted to know more about the history on the radio. He told me a amazing story. He bought the radio in 86' on a car exhibition because he loved the Tucker. In the fifties he was a stock car racer for a couople of years, At one day at the end of the race he talked to a guy who was having problems with his Chrysler engine. So my seller offered him to help him in his garage, to see if he could fix the problem. When they arrived at the garage it was difficuld to open the doors, because an engine was blocking one of the doors. When my seller asked what kind of engine it was the guy said " O it's a tucker engine which I took from the car". Of course my seller was interested and asked the guy where the car was. He told him that the car was only a few blocks away and has been taken apart. It was for sale but my seller didn't had the money and tought why should I buy a car which is 10 years old from a company which is gone bankrupt. You can underdstand that he still is saying to himself that he made one of the biggest mistakes of his life.

The other thing is that he worked for a local Canadian car dealer at that time and he wrote a letter in the forties to Mr Tucker and asked him if they wanted to set up a dealership in canada. He received a letter back from Tucker in which he explained that he first wanted to sell cars in the US. Years gone buy and my seller forgot all about this letter. It turned out that he left the letter from Tucker at his mothers home. When she passed away they cleaned up the house included the letter from Tucker !!

A strange and funny story.

Kind of a sad story really. But at least you got the radio!
