That's a 1948 plate in the photo - The 1949 was light background with dark lettering.

Actually, I have a collection of Illinois license plates dating back to 1911, and unless the manufacturer's plates were a different color, I can tell you that the 1948 plates were black on orange (and soybean based cardboard to boot), and the 1949 plates were yellow on dark blue in color.

The ebay link will no longer be active in a few months, thought I'd post it here so people in the future will know what this thread is about (by the way, it sold for $6101, i couldn't get the photos to attach..):
1948 Tucker Dealer Radio display Stand by Motorola.
This spectacular stand is the last known display used by Tucker Dealers to illustrate how the Tucker radio would play in your new Tucker auto. The stand contains the main body of the radio, the head mounting vertically spelling the word Tucker. As well the speaker is mounted below. A battery was used to power the radio for dealer presentation. A very rare item from and interesting automobile with a very colourful history. A very rare item indeed.
The radio works.
