Why was the original driveline removed?

Again Congrats! On your sale... Great car
I know you stated that it went on the Mercury frame and all in
the 60s... do you or anyone know what happened to the original
frame and suspension after that?...
Wonder if the new owners would try and take it back all the
way to original? Know it would cost big $$$$... but hey if
you can afford $202,000.... you can probably afford to do it.
Hope it doesn't drop off the map... would like to know what
the future holds for it.
Again congrats on your sale... hope it all goes smooth!

The new owner is a nice guy who plans on joining the club. His name is Matt and he lives in Los Angeles. He is thinking about restoring it to original and might need some help finding the parts. #1046 now has a good home and is in good hands. I'm sure you will be hearing more about this car in the future.

He could start by finding who owns that frame/suspention
that was on eBay a while back... it was red.. don't believe it sold..
I'm sure someone on this site knows who has it.
Also Ida Automotive... would think they could help in fabricating
anything needed for it. Will be great to see it restored.

The frame was 1018, not 1046. I think the 1046 frame is long lost.

Yeah I didn't think it was the 46 I thought it may have been a left over
or a drive test one from the plant... Just thought if someone had it
that wanted to sell it 46 would be interested....
Also the convertible that is out there... made from
left over parts.. does it have a Tucker engine?.... that would be the
one to grab to finish this one off right.. I would think it would have
all the trunk pieces, suspension, front end fenders that would
replace the vented ones, etc.

Because it was pretty much a goner. When it was done, Tuckers were "just this old car" and not $500K+ collectables. I'm thankful that the owner did that, instead of scrapping the car (which is what most people do when the engine, transmission, etc. is dead).

Preston, a good body man could fabricate patch panels to repair the front fenders so that you'd never be able to tell they'd ever had louvers cut into them. Each fender is made up of about 5 panels welded together and there's a lot of lead in them as well.

Yes. Actually that's probably the easiest scenario. But it begs the question - does the frame and driveline or the body dictate which car it is? You'd have a body from 1046, an extra frame, and an extra engine all thrown together. Does that make it 1046, or a non-original Tucker?

For example, the frame to 1018 is in Michigan but the front clip and several other parts are in Illinois. Who rightfully owns 1018? I'd argue the frame owner, but either one could probably make a case.
