Bishop and @#%$ deluxe heater.

Postby scombs » Sat Dec 08, 2001 8:37 am

Hello, I have a deluxe heater made by the bishop and babcock company. The heater is still in the box with the Tucker address on the side. The heater has all the originanal hardware in paper bags with the serial numbers still on the bags. The heater is in its original packageing and is in like new condition. I am wondering is this heater in fact made for the Tucker, and how much would this be worth? Also if this is for the Tucker where might be a good place to sell this item so that someone with a Tucker could benifit from buying this heater? Thank you, Scott Combs Please feel free to Email me at scombs@peoplepc.com

Heater

At the factory Tucker installed an underseat gas heater in some of the cars they completed. The heater that was sent to the dealers for installation in cars, that were to be shipped later, was a firewall mounted hot water heater. Which type do you have? Most of the gas heaters I have seen were made by Motorola if memory serves me correctly. Please email me. I am TuckerMch@aol.com
Hello, In a reply to your question. The heater is a firewall mounted unit which has 3 studs on the back side of the heater that would go through the firewall. The heater is a silvery gray metalish paint if you know what I mean. Its called a 4 winds on the box, it has 4 seperate doors on the heater which you can control from within the car. It is not a gas type heater. The bags of hardware have all kinds of brass pipe fittings and elbows. Thanks for your question and I hope this answers your question.

Heater

The heater that you have located was made by Bishop & Babcock Mfg. Co. of Cleveland and was sold as part of the Tucker Dealer Accesory package.

This was a program to bring folks into the dealerships and raise need cash for the the corporation. They could select packages that included seat covers, radios, heaters or fitted luggage. Their purchase acted somewhat like a deposit and assured the buyer the option to buy a Tucker if and when it arrived at that dealership.

Today many radios and other items pop up because thousands purchased the packages in hopes of owning a Tucker. The radios and luggage are by far the most desirable as they can be displayed. The seat covers and heaters are a bit less interesting and generic.

My guess would be it would be valued somewhere in a range of $50 -80. You could try to sell it on eBay or via the Tucker Automobile Club of America (TACA)(www.TuckerClub.org)

Another option you may wish to consider is making a tax deductable donation to the not-for-profit Tucker Historical Collection and Library (HCL) located at the Gilmore Car Museum in Michigan. The HCL is the archives and research portion of the TACA.

On items such as this the IRS allows you to assign and deduct the "Fair market Value". To learn more about the HCL you can follow the links on the Tucker page.

Can you tell me if this heater has a dealership address located on the label? If so what information appears.

Best Regards
Hello Jay, Thanks for all the information. My grandfather must have gone to the dealer and bought this heater in hopes of buying a Tucker. The box does not have any address on it as far as the dealer it was sent to from Tucker in Chicago. I really appreciate all the information and I know my father does want to sell the heater. I am going to tell him about the possiabilty of donateing the heater also.
