Torsilastic and misc suspension

Postby Tom » Thu Feb 15, 2007 1:55 pm

I have read about Bill Hamlin designing his own Torsilastic units that he believed the Tucker would eventually use. Is there any information or pics available or even drawings? I also read that Pat Dunn had a lot of information on the Torsilastic units that he let Russ Brownell use on the Netthercut restoration is there any way to contact Pat Dunn for information on the torsilastic units? I also have to wonder are all remaining Tuckers using the Bill Hamlin design after all the aging done to the original suspension design? If not how does someone go about restoring these original units? I understand that its springs incased with rubber. Does liquid rubber have to be molded into the springs somehow or how is that done? Now to the front suspension what did the front suspension consist of I heard of 2 equal A arms per wheel but thats about it does it consist of a drag link and other parts of that nature like most cars or is it totally different?

Lieberman made some new molds using some new elastomer when he restored 1006 back in the 1990's.

Torsilastic suspension

I would actually like to see some photos of the suspension to get a better idea of how it worked. The patent application prints show me little of how they actually worked. Just rough sketches is all they showed.

Suspension

Was the later model bigger suspension better than the smaller early model suspension 1025 and back I believe?
