Tucker Combat Car

Postby 1Robert » Sat Nov 02, 2002 1:37 am

I have been intersted in Preston Tucker for a number of years now. I have visited mueseums and seen them. I have and read Charles Pearsons book, and just recieved Phil Egan's book the other week and started on that. I have researched on-line as well, and I was wondering if anyone knows what became of the Tucker Combat car with the inovative turret. Was the combat car in the movie the origonal, or a replica? If it was a replica, where did that end up? I remember reading that the model of the combat car was Preston's baby according to his wife Vera, and while he was in Washington promoting it, she kept a clean supply of pillow cases to keep the model in. I would enjoy getting to see it.
Tucker Combat Car

I figured as much. It happens so much with pieces of history, it gets lost, scrapped or thrown away. Thank you for your reply.
Combat Car

Postby jfollis640 » Sat Jan 25, 2003 3:16 am

According to Frank Tucker (cousin to Preston) the combat car was taken to New Orleans for testing. When Tucker left the Higgins / Tucker Boat company the combat car was left behind.

It may have ended up in a junk yard or it may have ended up as part of a WWII scrap drive.

The Combat car in the film was a recreation. In recent photos of Coppola's winery display of Tucker #1014 I could see the corner of the movie combat car.
Thanks for the heads up. Guess I will have to make a trip to Dallas. If I had know sooner, my wife could have picked one up, since she was in Dallas recently.
Tucker Combat Car

Postby etfshtx12netzeronet » Thu May 01, 2003 4:14 am

I recently visited with Frank Tucker and he has a lot of info on the Combat vehicle. His dad was also a major player in the developement of the Combat Car. I think he also was instermental in the developement of the Electric Turret.
Frank was kind enough to give me an original picture of the Combat Car with turret. Date Mar 1942.
Hopefully Frank gets on the internet soon. He was working on it.
Frank and his wife Sharon will be at the 2003 Conv in GR MI if you want to know more.
