What is the real name of the Tucker

Postby stude62 » Sun Jan 15, 2006 8:55 pm

Have a question for the body - and this has to do with the Tucker listing on Wikipedia. Simply stated: What is the offical name of the Tucker.

I'm asking because as I post this because the current posting on Wikipedia lists the car as: "1948 Tucker Sedan" because another user thinks this was the official name of the car. I, on the other hand believe it to be Make: Tucker, Model: Sedan, Year: 1948 (and this is based on an old registration slip that I have)

Also, can anyone clarify the "Torpedo" name that appears with the Tucker.

Any help is welcome,

The car that was produced was officially called the 48. The original concept, which only existed as a mock up (and looks totally different), was called Torpedo. The name Torpedo was rejected since many people in the company thought that such a name would imply that the car wasn't safe. Had the company not failed, and a two door version gone into production, it most likely would have been called Talisman.
