I have just returnd from a family holiday in California and managed to see two Tuckers.

At Francis Coppola's Winery I saw a blue car, not the red one I was expecting . Records show that he owns Tucker #1014 in Blue and #1037 in Maroon. The staff there, and it would seem, the Tucker website are in some doubt as to what the blue car is. I was told it was a made up model for a magazine by the Coppola people. So is it 1014, or what?

At the Petersen museum in LA I saw a black car, presumably #1030, the car Tucker's mother bought. They mentioned they have another in the shop for restoration. Which one would that be? I look forward to some answers.
The blue car is Serial Number 1014 and the Maroon or red car is Serial Number 1037.
Coppola's cars

Postby Stephanie W » Fri May 17, 2002 3:20 am

Richard, if you don't mind my asking, how'd you get this info? Or, I should say, is it reliable? I contacted Coppola's P.R. people to check to put the cars in line with my research and have never received an answer. The winery staff I was able to talk to didn't know either.
Thanks.
Coppola's Tucker's

Postby plancor 792 » Sun May 19, 2002 5:24 pm

Stephanie,
Francis Ford Coppola ownes Tucker 1037. I went to Boston and helped the owner drive it to Columbus Georgia. This owner later sold it to Coppola. The owner of Tucker 1014 contacted me about the possibility of selling her Tucker to a member of the Tucker family. This car had belonged to her dad who passed away and she could not drive a car. I told her I saw nothing wrong with having a Tucker family menber purchase it. So she sold it only to have that family menber turn it over immediately to Coppola. In fact Coppola was with him when he made the purchase and Coppola had given him the money to purchase the car. She sold 1014 at a very reasonable price. Of course not knowing that he was going to hand the keys over to Coppola. In the movie 1037 was used as the "Tin Goose" or prototype. 1014 was torn completely apart and was used to make the plastic molds and things of that nature. Later 1014 was reassembled and delivered to Coppola.
Coppola Cars

Postby Stephanie W » Sun May 19, 2002 10:57 pm

Thanks, Richard! Even without Brad's testimonial, your explanation is gold with me. You did in a couple of days what I've been trying to get confirmed for 6 weeks.

I'd love to go into detail about why I needed to know, but on a public forum, I'd probably better not.

I have tentative plans to be at the Las Vegas convention. If you're going, may I can tell you about it then!

Any chance you know any history on 1039?
Car # 1008

Postby 1Robert » Sat Nov 02, 2002 1:52 am

Several years back I had the pleasure of seeing car #1008 at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. Last year I noted that the car was supposed to have been sold off. While looking on line recently, the Palm Springs Air Mueseum has a Tucker on display now, it being part of the extensive auto collection of one Robert Pond. My wife and I visited the mueseum last summer, and enjoyed the vintage cars and planes on display. We are planning a trip there soon, I am curious if this is car #1008. The one I saw at Imperial Palace was red, and the one in Palm Springs they show is red. Perhaps Mr. Pond bought it from them. If it is the same I'll post the information when I get back. If you happen to be traveling through the Palm Springs area, and you have the time, the Air Mueseum there is worth the stop.
Respectfully,
coppola's tucker

Postby julianmoseley » Sun Jan 12, 2003 11:18 pm

very interesting to read about 1014 being the parts bin for the rest of the cars in the movie. the winery staff were totally ignorant of my requests for info when I was there. they only seemed to want to know which wine tour i was on. The fact they had a piece of real history upstairs escaped them. some images and an account of my visit can be found here.
