Looking through “See A Tucker” I noticed that number 1045
looks black.
I had seen this car in person in Tulsa Oklahoma at the
Bennett 2nd Annual Investor Auto Auction.
Now this was around 1989 I believe (I still have a poster
as it featured the Tucker)
But it was light blue and the center headlight was replaced by
a plate of glass. Was wondering if it has been completely restored
or just a new paint job. Funny the flyer stated it was number 45 of 53 produced, was beleived to have been the only Tucker to have never
been driven, Also that it had been stored since new.
We looked under the car and it told a different story...
Anyway was a great day and was really neat to be able to actually
look a Tucker over inside and out.
Since I was a college student and not having any money
I got the poster and a t-shirt, a bunch of photos and left as
it wasn't auctioned till the next day. Never knew what it went for
but I'm sure it was more than this college student could afford.

This Tucker was purchased by Nick Jenin of Fort Lauderdale, FL and was driven extensively during the time he had it. Nick at one tiime had about 9 Tucker's but started selling them off. He sold 1045 to Walter Bellm , Bellm's Cars and Music of Yesteryear in Sarasota, FL and Walter displayed it for years in his museum. When I saw the car it had the plate glass in the center headlight and I gave him the correct number for the glass. He never bothered to replace it. The car was at the auction 1 Aug. 1998 and was bid to $290,000.00 however the reserve on it was $335,000.00 so it was not sold. It later sold on 10-89 and after going through several owners, the car today is with a privately in Ohio.
According to those at Bellm's Museum this car was driven by Marquis DePortago in 1960 at Sebring, FL through a quarter mile at 131.62 mph.
Only problem with this is according to USAC they have no record of such an event and DePortago died prior to 1960.
Also this car was used in the Segrams ads that appeared in many publications.

More on 1045 and some corrections.
Walter Bellm purchased the car from Nick Jenin on 7 Nov. 1966. He sold it to Bob Holland in Oct 1987. Holland restored the car and sold it to Nobuo Sawayama, Kobe Auto Inc. Kobe, Japan.
It was again on the auction block around 4-11-98 at the Newport Beach Auction. Newport Beach it was bid to $315,000.00 At that time they were asking about $435,000.00 for it.
It was listed in The Dupont Registry.
While the original color of the car was 500 (Gray), Jenin painted it a blue green (Turquise) and that was its color when Bellm sold it. It could be considered a light blue I guess.
Current owner lives in Ohio.

Yeah that turquoise blue was a fast (overspray) paint job.
And they can use other glass for the center light? Was
wondering about that since that was a special feature.
Also, there were so many people looking it over I got a
chance to actually sit/look inside at the interior....
Like everyone else that sees one... what a shame they were never
produced.... Was there ever a chance he could have partnered
up with someone else or rebuild the company... after he went through
the lawsuit. Hard to believe that any company after seeing what he
had done in such a short time...would have not jumped on it...
Factory, dies, foundaries all right there...could have been a division of someone else since it was so advanced and everything they would have needed ready to go....
Why wouldn't Kaizer or Fraser even Studebaker...been all over that....
Studebaker really changed their look in 1950... almost as if they thought sure Tucker was going to make it as their 50 model really looks similar
in front design....

Again just bumping this topic to the top...
Hard to believe Nobody had interest or wanted to continue
building the Tucker after all they went through... With the facotry
and materials sitting just waiting to be built?
How sad is that.... I know Tucker himself wanted to continue but I guess the damage had been done just hard to believe that another company or even country after seeing what had been built, seeing that
though 3 years had passed, that it was still ahead in design both
appearance and preformance.
Nobody has any information if there was an attempt to rebuild
or partner... or even if there was a interest of a comapny buying
him out at the end?...
