Tucker #1014

I'm looking for car #1014. It was delivered to My Grandfather, Edward Zito of "ERIE MOTORS" 146-13 Northern Blvd. Flushing N.Y.back in 1948 I guess. I have 4 8x10 pic's of the car with him in it along with assorted sales paperwork.
The last I had heard about #1014 was while talking to Carlo De Lorenzo who owns #1051. He gave me an owners list from 1990 listing #1014's owner as Francis Ford Coppola. I don't see #1014 listed on this site anywhere. I'm just curious to see if it's changed ownership.

In official postings by TACA, we do not list owners that have not given us permission to do so. We do list those vehicles owned and displayed by museums and by private owners that elect to allow us to share ownership information.

In reviewing our history on this car, we do not show your Grandfather's name as having been a previous owner. The record shows that the car was originally sold to a CA dealer in 1948.

If you can provide us with documentation, we would be pleased to update our records.
I suggest that you contact the HCL Director, Jay Follis at JFollis640@juno.com
Thank you for your post.
Car #1014

Postby jfollis640 » Sat Mar 24, 2001 11:30 pm

When you state that car #1014 was "delivered" to your grandfather do you know if this was for a local showing? Dealers across the country could sponsor having a car come to there city for showings. Some lasted only a couple of days while others held cars for two weeks or more before the car traveled on to another city.
The Tucker Historical Collection and Libary (HCL) - the archives of the not-for-profit Tucker Automobile Club of America, Inc - would be very interested in learning more about the photos and information you have.
Being delivered for showing is possible I guess. but it has always been my understanding that the car was for his dealership. Like I said I have pictures of my grendfather with the car as well as a picture of 11 dealers seated holding placards with the names of their dealerships. I also have another larger picture of The Tucker Greater Metropolitan Dealers' Meeting at the Hotel Park Central dated 11/21/47.

Thanks for the response. From the records that we have we show that car #1014 was sold in CA in 1948. It would seem that a showing would be most likely what the photos are from. Out of the 1800 - 2000 dealers only about 12 actually ended up getting cars. The remainder were sold at auction.

Like I mentioned above the Tucker Historical Collection and Library would be very interested in any information you have on your grandfathers dealership.
We currently have a database and would like to ad him to it.

If it is possible we like to add copies of the local dealer / car photos to our collection. The New York photo is one that is currently in the collection.
Let me know how you would like copies and I'll send them to you.
I also have a letter to my grandfather from; I'm guessing, another Tucker dealer,John Lotito. This was dated 10-13-53 and was regarging a NEW Tucker car dubbed "The New Tucker Rear Engined Beauty". This letter included a Pitch letter from G.A. Schmidt- President- It asked for a commitment of X amount of dollars and included a conceptual drawing of the new Tucker. There is also a legal document discussing the Chapter X bankruptcy of the Tucker Corp.
I was given a ride in #1014 in Laguna Beach calif. in Apr 1952 or summer of 1954. The owner was Bill Hamlin. Bill lived in Ontaroo, Calif. in Nov, 1965 and still had the Tucker at that time. His car had licence # KND 797. I know Bill and his car is mentioned on page 210

Tucker # 1014

Postby Jason Horton » Sat Jan 19, 2002 9:39 am

I recently found an article about Tucker #1014 in the October, 1972 issue of "Car Classics" magazine. Curiosity brought me to this website. The article was written by William B. Hamlin, the above-mentioned previous owner of Tucker #1014. At the time of the article, Hamlin was still the owner of the car, which, in the article, he said he had purchased in 1952 with over 70,000 miles on the odometer. Interestingly, Hamlin mentioned n the article that he had placed a dealer order for a NEW Tucker in 1948, and it was to be for car #1014. The article includes a black-and-white photo of Hamlin with the car, as well as a full color full-page picture. It is a blue car, and the license numer is (California black plate) HKE 228. If anyone has interest in this article, email me at jason@hortons.net; if there is enough interest, I will try to reproduce the article on a website with scans of the pictures.
