Something to think about

I believe the club needs to come up to the needs of the current times. We need to focus on getting new, young members and keeping the interest of our current members.

After being a member for a number of years before the movie, I became disheartened along with a number of other members and owners. One owner dropped out of the club with the statement "The Johnny come lately group has taken over the club." When I was on the board, the vice-president would become president the following year. [ADMIN EDIT]

I question the direction the club is going. This is a great club and let's build for the future. Thank you for your time. I have to get busy replacing the accelerator cable on our Tucker.

Interesting thoughts. Most every club or organization has specific term limits and term out limits. The president serves two terms than sits out a term. I think it's great to cycle this way. It gives people a chance to be involved and keeps the ideas and leadership fresh. The same goes for other positions. The treasurer for the Tucker club has been in place in some form for decades. It's not an issue of doing a good or bad job it's more the issue of a fresh set of eyes that may see things different and gain new efficiencies. I understand from other members that projects don't progress because of lack of funds. Maybe we need to look at other avenues of fundraising to meet certain goals. Again these are volunteer positions and in no way do I discredit the work of current members my objective is to simply pitch in for the good of the club!

Looking forward to seeing you at the convention. Will you bring the Fascination the Saturday of the convention?

First, it's nice to see the Board turned back on. Funny how it "suddenly" went down for a week after Keith's post.

I'd like to agree with Eric that as members we should consider amending the bylaws to include some sort of term limits. I'm not saying that many of the current members aren't doing a good job but fresh faces do bring fresh ideas. I'm sure this will upset some but it seems like as a Club we are stuck in 1992. Also by having limits it would not prevent ALL that want to serve to continue to do so. It simply means that for example, the President could only serve a certain period. That would not prevent him/her from running for a Board seat or other office. The same with a Board member. After a certain term limit, they could run to be an Officer. This would allow ALL who want to be active to remain active. Even if the same people end up rotating roles it would still bring new ideas.

The Tucker Club needs to be transparent. The Officers and Board members should never be put into a position where they can have their actions be questioned. By being open on everything we'll grow as a Club. By allowing members to disagree with each other we'll be able to choose what is best for the Club.

I think there are some good points here, especially with regard to the term limits. But please understand that the current officers have been in office due to a lack of interest from 'new blood' in years past. That is why the same person was the VP and webmaster. The same person is the Secretary and Treasurer. I took a second term as VP despite my preference to move back to being Director. The 'first lady' stepped up to handle fundraising in the absence of volunteers despite the pleas we made for help. Hey, I was the 'new blood' not too long ago.

The site was legitimately down for technical reasons and if there is anyone here that does not believe that, then they must have some guilt on their conscience for something that they posted. I checked with Kit and neither he nor I had disabled the Board.

To that point, I think there have been some low blows here lately. Please keep in mind that this is a public forum that we use attract new members, not to air dirty laundry about disagreements in the way the club is run and definitely not a place to make personal attacks against specific people. That's only going to scare off prospective members. I suppose a Members' Only section of the site is one solution to this problem.

Before clicking 'Submit," please reread your comments, and put yourselves in the position of those who do their best to run the club and consider how those comments might be taken personally. Constructive criticism is one thing - personal attacks are another and they will not be tolerated.

Let's not forget that while we are all anonymous on this message board, it makes for an awkward convention to be standing in the same room with someone you exchanged words with online.
