"Chain clearance" mentioned in Tucker document 03/22/1948

In reading the Tucker Corporation Departmental Correspondence document from March 22, 1948, "chain clearance" is mentioned twice - "The rear torsilastic units will move inboard 3/4" to increase chain clearance". I initially wondered if there were some sort of drive chains on the Tucker, but a site search for "chain" didn't turn anything up relating to drive chains on the Tucker. I then wondered if there may have been chains on the production line to move the vehicles along a conveyor, and that moving the torsilastic units on the cars was to give these chains clearance rather than rebuilding the conveyor line, but now I am wondering what the real answer is. I am curious what was meant by "chain clearance" in this case. Thanks, Tim

Gosh, that makes perfect sense... I just didn't think of it! I have had my car for so long (there isn't clearance for chains so I never think of them) that it didn't dawn on me.
