I have been practising law for 38 years waiting for that "million dollar" case to come in. If it does before August, I will be there. I may go anyway just to see "in person" #1045. My dream would be to own both 1045 and 1046 (being restored by RM as I type this) and display them together in my hometown museum! Charles

Wow, What a beautiful car! Who ever the winning bidder is, will be very lucky to own this masterpiece! I can easily see this car topping the price record! It looks to be in near perfect 100 point condition! I am drooling!
If you didn't get dirty, then nothing was accomplished!

Just a reminder to all Tucker lovers that next weekend-August 13 and 14th, Tucker no.1045 (from the O'Quinn Estate) comes up for sale at RM auctions in Monterey. The question is how much more than one million dollars will it bring? I surely would like the new owner to display it at sometime in the future at my local museum in Texarkana called the Tex-Ark Antique Auto Museum. I truly believe it would have been shown at the museum by now had Mr. O'Quinn not died in an unfortunate car wreck last October in Houston. Charles

it will be interesting to see how much 1045 actually goes for, maybe higher than 1038 but the economy is more screwy now than it was when 1038 sold a few years ago.

#1045 is nowhere in the class of car as #1038 was. In some areas it is better than #1041, in other areas
not as good. The price paid will be determined by how bad someone wants to own a Tucker but I don't
think you'll see it anywhere near a million.

I hope we dont see it near one million dollars either as I am going to try and bring one home for the club to enjoy!

Tuckerfan is right... 1045 needs quite a bit of work. It hasnt run or had mechanicals updated in years and the paint (which should be silver) is cracked and shot. There are several incorrect issues with the car that need addressing if the new owner wishes to return it to its 1948 splendor.

I would address those issues then make the car available to museums and councours' and of course club members and conventions because people really do enjoy seeing a Tucker in the flesh. And its good for the cars, the club and the legacy to get out there and stay in the younger generations face so they can see that there was this great innovator back in the 40's and maybe the next Preston Tucker can get our country back to what made it great. Innovation...

Eric

I get what you are saying, but it is still a tucker. when 1041 sold recently it didnt make a million but it still was far from cheap. always keep in mind that there are people out there that just see something and have to have it and price is no option. remember how high the bidding went on the convert before prospective buyers gave up because they couldnt meat the reserve.

Don't forget that many times the auction house will drive the price of the car up to the reserve with no real buyer.
I've heard from several people at the convert auction that said after a few hundred thousand there were no real
people anywhere in site. You'll see it on the TV auctions all the time. When there is a real buyer they'll show him
(or her) in the crowd and when there is not they'll just point out in the crowd.

There are several collectors that would love to own the convertible that I've talked with but none will pay over
a few hundred thousand. One told me he figures it is worth at least as much as you'd pay for a Tucker in very
poor condition but not much more than that because most collectors look at what would it cost to make it a
100 point car. With the convert he said he could leave it as is or spend $300,000+ to gut it and make it into a
Tucker again.

Well if there's one thing we can say for sure, it's that anything can happen.

The fact that #1045 is coming to auction on Friday the 13th is typical for a Tucker is it not? I mean when has a Tucker ever done anything but the unusual -but with flair. They were not even born in the usual manner were they? I do hope it goes to a good home in the USA willing to let the people see it. It will not be long now! Charles D. Barnette

Well I followed the live auction and by 11 pm central time it was bid up to a million. It went over and sold but for some reason the actual amount was not posted before the next car came on. By in the morning we should know if it set a record for a Tucker. It is safe to say now that two Tuckers have reached the Million Dollar Mark! Charles-I hope the new owner is a member of this club and will come forward with his identity. Remember I still would like to see it in my local museum in Texarkana- The Tex-Ark Antique Auto Museum. Monterey seems to be magic for Tuckers. Maybe if Preston had built cars in Nor Cal we'd all own 2010 Tuckers today. 45 wasn't a great car. Needed a lot of work to make it spectacular. Most of the bidders sat down after 750-800k then me and the phone bidder took it to 1,025,000. I just couldn't see going further for 1045. It's my belief that this car may leave the country like 38 did. I'll guess 45 is off the grid now

Sorry Tucker fans I couldn't bring that one home....

I'll be sad if yet another car is moved away. Sure it's great if the car is shown in another country but
if it just lands in a private collection that is never seen that will be bad. Lets hope the next one stays home.
