Tucker Hubcaps

CDB mentioned seeing a photo of #1025 in Lexington KY recently at a meet there. It got me thinking
about the several Tuckers that don't have their original hubcaps. 1007, 1025, 1040, 1041, 1046 and
1048 (there may be others).

I know that Chick DeLorenzo had some replicas made a few years back but does anyone know of a
stock hubcap from another make that at least looks close to what a Tucker hupcaps looks like? I'm
sure there won't be many that look like the early hubcaps with the "fins" but the later caps aren't
that unique (other than the emblem). Just thinking there are better choices for those cars with
"genuine" Tucker parts.

A 1950 Plymouth hubcap looks close if the center emblem was reworked. To the untrained Tucker
eye it would seem to look better than what is on some cars. Maybe someone has some better ideas
of stock hubcaps that match.

Well, technically Kaiser-Frazer hubcaps could be considered "stock" since they used them for testing purposes at the Tucker Corporation. (I think its because in camera shots they'd look like they had the Tucker crest on them, so people wouldn't know precisely when the photo was taken.)

Looks like if you flattened out the center of the 1950 Plymouth hubcap and slapped a
Tucker emblem over the Plymouth one on the hubcap it would look somewhat close.

its funny that my little brother has a 1950 plymouth and i told him that they looked very Tucker like in shape, its funny because he hates the large stock hubcaps and instead uses the smaller dog dish versions.

visor like the one below only in seafoam green.

We've been toying with the idea of making more hubcaps. We've gotten some estimates using Chick's tool (insert joke here) but they are VERY expensive. I've got a guy here in Chicago that can probably stamp them out so when Marytn's done with a sample he has he's going to send it here.

We're always trying to determine demand and lately it seems like half the Tuckers out there have the wrong wheel covers. Add in some collectors who want to hang them on their wall and we could probably sell quite a few.

On a side note, the company that made the original hubcaps was American MetalCraft here in Chicago. They are still in business but make pizza pans. I spoke to their owner, who is the grandson of the guy who owned it back in the 1940's but unfortunately they do not have any remnants of the hubcap drawings or tooling. Archer Kahn passed away a few years ago and it was his obituary in the Chicago Tribune that led me on to this fact. Alas, I could not trace any family lineage to them (that is my last name).

His is a plane deluxe with nothing fancy, the full wheel covery just look out of place on it. he might change his mind when he is done restoring the car but until then its the dog dish caps or no caps at all.

I post regularly on a machinist's website, and I might be able find someone willing to do 'em for less (then again, I might not). I'd need some basic specs on the caps and the tool, but it couldn't hurt to ask, I suppose.
