Glad to have you here, but from that photo, I can't tell what it might be. It could be a steam shovel or a swimming pool. What it almost certainly is not, however, is a Tucker.

I'll reserve my opinion to what that is until later.

Did you buy it?

The light blue area might be the large dent on 1027's left rear fender.

The red lines are the seats.

The green lines appear to be a right front door.

I say this is a hoax. Someone is tech savvy enough to post on Craig's list but not savvy enough to know that anything Tucker related, much less a body is worth a lot more than $350 and this is all brought to our attention by a new member on his first post?

This looks like it is a picture of the test chassis with the front of 1018 that sold at auction several years back possibly before the auction possibly with one of 1027's rear fenders. The entire picture could have been put together from several pictures. The shadow of the ladder looks to have been drawn on and the shadows on the ground look funny.

The car looks to be in black primer just like the car at auction. The car at auction's rear fender had been sanded recently as they had no paint and just surface rust on them. Perhaps the were swapped before the auction or the dent is just an optical illusion in this low res picture.

What are the chances there is another Tucker out there missing it's roof in the same way as that car was? The remains of 1042 perhaps? Or one of the unfinished shells with a bunch of parts? I doubt it.

I didn't look at the photo all that closely yesterday...Cicero, your detective work is awesome. This listing makes me scratch my head --- that ladder "shadow" is so bad. Anyone else find it odd that the posting is in TN, possibly alluding to 1042. Seriously, what the hell is the matter with people? :?

Yea I noticed the TN connection.

Of course Tuckerfan1053 is in TN so he is probably in Gibson right now knocking on every door and looking in every barn.

Such a low res photo can cause real things in the image to look weird or even fake. That said, until I see better photos I am not convinced that this is legit.

Meanwhile tom999p has not visited since his first and so far only post. I find that curious as well.

I hope this is legit and either Tom or one of us end up with it but I am not hopeful that is the case.

True about the low res -- but I've been known (don't tell by boss!) to purposely knock down res (not as low as this pic by a long shot, though) to obscure sloppy retouching. Chicken or the egg!!?? So, I'm with you, the photo means nothing as it is now.

Some months back I got a "Hey! I found a Tucker in a barn!" email from someone who wanted to know how to find the VIN number. He swore, of course, that it was legit, etc., etc., etc. I told him how to find the data plate on the car and he promised to get back to me, but never has. (Not that I'm the least bit surprised.) Not sure why someone would try to do such a transparent hoax, but everyone needs a hobby, I suppose. ;)

Just one of the reasons I waited for years before mentioning I saw a Tucker in a junk yard because I knew
everyone would think I was crazy. Now that I finally have verified that the owner of #1011 owned a junk
yard, and that he also owned the junkyard that I saw a Tucker in, everyone knows that it really happened.

As for this photo, I think it is from Lot #684 and photoshopped to look like somethink else. The reference to
Gibson TN seems to be made to link it to the "story" of #1042 disappearing in Memphis

the ad has been "deleted by the author" and our newbie tom999p has not logged in since his initial post.

He must have thought that we would have bought this hook line and sinker.

The problem with pulling this kind of hoax with a Tucker is that all but one are accounted for and the picture he chose to photoshop was of a car that was already well know of and had the distinction of having the center of the roof cut off, unlike the car Mr. Cole is trying to sell, so it was easily identifiable.

He would be better off trying this with some other rare car with a higher production number.

There are very rare cars out there in weird places, a couple of years ago the 6th VW Beetle prototype from '38 was found in Lithuania although heavily modified and and on a DKW chassis. It has been recovered and is being restored. This is now the second oldest VW in the world.

So there are rare finds still lurking out there but someone is going to have to try harder to fool anyone about a Tucker sitting in a barn.
