I just wondered when and where the museum acquired the Tin Goose. I worked for ITT Automotive from 1989 to 1999 and sometime during those years I had one of the weekly Old Cars for sale type of magazines front cover taped to the wall in my design area that had, if I remember the wording right, Tucker Prototype for sale, Original Tin Goose, I think it was priced at around $300k and was marked for "serious inquiries only". Also it was red and in the top center of the cover (OLD CARS "SOMETHING" "SOMETHING" then 6 photos 3 abreast position #2 and a side shot of the drivers side of the car). Does anyone else remember this? I thought it was interesting so I posted it up; do not remember if it was before or after the movie release. But really, when did they get the car and from where? PS, the magazine was in the Detroit area.

As far as I know they bought it from John Lemmo. He owned it into the 1990s. I'm sure
someone here can probably give us the exact dates and maybe even what Swigert paid for it.

William and Patti bought both the Tin Goose and 1013 at the Auburn Kruse Auction in 1998 (Labor Day Weekend). Tin Goose was bought from Lemmo and 1013 from Frances A. Heinrichs.

Tin Goose sold for $255,000
1013 sold for $300,000

Not sure if those were hammer prices or included fees.

Did Gilbert and Frances Heinrichs ever own #1020? John Lemmo purchased it in 1973 from someone in Elyria, OH
which would be less than 5 miles from where the Heinrichs live in Columbia Station. Just curious if Lemmo could
have purchased #1020 from the Heinrichs.

My father was a freind of the Heinrichs family and he always told me that they only ever owned the Blue one(1013) so i doubt that they ever owned 1020.

From what Mr Lemmo explained #1020 was in pretty rough shape when he got it in 1973.
Hopefully someone has knowledge of where it was for the first 25 years of it's life. I do
know where the original radio supposedly is

Believe that Les Sheaffer purchased Tucker 1020 from Ed Novack. Prior to purchase of Tucker 1013 by Gilbert Heinrichs it was owned by William Schamberger and Art Malofsky. Gilbert Heinrichs purchased 1013 in 1969.

Thanks Richard!

On #1013 the ownership went from Art Malofsky to William Schamberger to Gilbert Heinrichs to William Swigert? Any others on that one?

Thank you again for all the help !!!!

Tucker 1020,
Now that I read your post and my replies above. I messed up. Not unusual any more. John Lemmo purchased 1020 from Ed Nowak who owned Ed Nowak Transmission Service on Griswold Road in Elyria, Oh. Les Sheaffer did not own or at any time have this Tucker. Sorry about that boo boo.

Richard,There is no need to apologize, it happens to all of us! I'm accused of misquoting my Wife all the time and quite frankly, I'm getting used to it! This may be for another post, but does anyone know if the original suspension currently on display will be reunited with 1046 or will they fabricate new? If it was I who had the suspension and they wanted it, I would surely poney it up...... kind of like reuniting an old friend...
If you didn't get dirty, then nothing was accomplished!

Richard,

Once again your information was quite helpful in tracking down another piece of the long trail of Tucker owners.
With your help I found that Ed Nowak did own Ed’s Transmission Service at 41524 Griswold Road in Elyria, OH. He
ran the business and his brother Anthony became a partner for many years. Ed lived in nearby Amherst OH. His shop
was originally in Lorain OH at 1500 Ashland. Ed also had an interest in a auto wrecking company in Elyria.

Any idea how Ed came to own #1020, Who, what, where, when, and how?

Lots of information, but what I was really asking was if anyone else saw it for sale in an "Auto Trader" type of publication in the mid 1990's?

Tin Goose,

The Tin Goose was purchased in 1972 by John Lemmo from Les Sheaffer. Car was unvieled on 6-19-1947. It was purchased at the auction by Riskin of Republic Sales Co. 1809-1811 South State Street Chicago, Il for $1575.00. Les Sheaffer purchased the car from the estate of William Bernhardt, indiannapolis, Indiana around 4-15-68. Mr Bernhardt passed away and the car belonged to his son John. John wanted it shipped to him in Santa Barbara, California but when he was informed of the condition the vehicle was in, he sold it through Bob Ashly of Barnes, Hickam, Pantzer and Boyd Law Firm.

A bit more on Tucker 1013. Art Malofsky 3008 N. Third Street Milwaukee Wisc sold 1013 to Rambler Dealer Bill Schamberger 717 3rd. Ave. S. E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401 and he sold it to Gilbert C. Heinrichs 12686 Columbia Road
Columbia Station, OHio 44028. Mr. Heinrich died when his tractor rolled over him while his car was in California making the Tucker movie.

Richard, Great information as always!

Could Les Sheaffer have bought the Tin Goose a few years earlier? John Bernhardt passed away 6/15/1963
and had only been in Santa Barbara since 1959. John was a famous artist. (see link)
http://tobeycmossgallery.com/BIOS-bernhardt-chrono.html

Otherwise if it was in 1968 than it's possible that Robert S. Ashby of Barnes, Hickam, Pantzer and Boyd
handled the sale for John's estate. An interesting note is Robert S. Ashby was on the board of several
Art Museums in the Indianapolis area so Ashby would have known John Bernhardt and his family.

Do you know if William Bernhardt bought the Tin Goose from Republic Sales? If he did then that would
be the complete chain of ownership.

Sad story about Mr. Heinrichs and #1013. I had read that he died in the accident on 6/17/87 at age 53
but didn't realize the timeline between his death and the filming. Was #1013 used in any particular scenes
that you remember?

Did Art Malofsky buy #1013 at the plant auction or were there other owners before him?
