Atlanta City Lights, Southern Summer Nights, and One Remarkable Car

Mark your calendars, TACA’s 2010 Convention will be held Thursday, June 10th through Sunday, June 13th!
This summer, we have the opportunity to encounter Tucker #1034 in a very unique setting—Hight Museum’s limited-time exhibit, “The Allure of the Automobile.” This presentation displays 18 of the world's rarest and most brilliantly conceived cars from the 1930s to the mid-1960s, including masterpieces by Bugatti, Duesenberg, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Pierce-Arrow, Tucker, and Ferrari. The exhibition traces the evolution of the motorcar, examining the contrasts between European and American design, and significant changes in automotive styling and engineering before and after World War II.
With so much to see and do in the greater Atlanta area, we had quite a challenge selecting this year’s “must see” venues for the convention. In addition to the Hight Museum, we’re confident that we’ve found a little something for everyone:

The Atlanta Aquarium is the world’s largest. Walk through an acrylic tunnel or stand in front of a gigantic acrylic viewing window, and you will feel like a SCUBA diver in an endless blue sea, mesmerized by thousands of fish swimming overhead. “Ocean Voyager” is home to the gentle giants of the sea, including whale sharks and manta rays (the only manta rays ever on display in a U.S. aquarium).

With 4,574 square feet of viewing windows, a 100-foot-long underwater tunnel, 185 tons of acrylic windows and the second largest viewing window in the world at 23 feet tall by 61 feet wide and 2 feet thick, visitors will have multiple opportunities to view all of these magnificent animals. No other aquarium in the world has ever attempted to manage the variety and size of fish in this major exhibit.

Stone Mountain Park is a green oasis where families and friends can enjoy the outdoors together. Listed in Frommer’s 500 Places to Visit with Your Kids Before They Grow Up, Stone Mountain Park is located just 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta. The five square mile park is Georgia’s most visited attraction. Home to the world’s largest piece of exposed granite, Stone Mountain Park offers a variety of attractions, entertainment and recreation.
The rock’s top attraction is The Summit Skyride. This high-speed Swiss cable car provides a stunning view of the Confederate Memorial Carving as it transports guests more than 825 feet above ground to the top of Stone Mountain. From the top, experience amazing views of the Atlanta skyline, the Appalachian Mountains and more up to 60 miles away.
The Antebellum Plantation at Stone Mountain Park is a collection of original buildings from around the State of Georgia, built between 1783 and 1875. Each structure was moved from its original site and carefully restored to preserve its authenticity and historical value.

Stone Mountain Park has the largest high-relief sculpture in the world, the Confederate Memorial Carving. The carving honors three Confederate heroes of the Civil War, President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.
And while you’re there, be sure to see the sights by land and water during a Ride the Ducks tour, a Scenic Railroad on a lively five mile trip around the mountain, and a cruise around Stone Mountain Lake on the Paddlewheel Riverboat.
And of course, there’ll be plenty of time for “Talking Tucker,” in addition to the annual auction, business meeting, and banquet! See you in June for city lights, southern nights and one remarkable car!

Hi --

I will not be able to attend the 2010 convention (and probably none of the others as my husband only gets 2 weeks vacation and does not share my "craziness" for Tuckers  ). However, I saw in the newsletter that there will be some commemorative items given out, plus a raffle. Is there any way you would be willing to put together a "virtual convention" package -- just the giveaways + optional raffle ticket -- for a reduced price?

I think that would be a good idea and it would certainly help folks like me who are members of TACA, enjoy this board, the newsletter, etc. but would like to feel a bit more connected.

Thanks!

Maybe the Wrights will let us see #1010. It's only 10 miles away.
