Some of Tucker's Patents

I was poking around on Google Scholar and found that it allows you to search patents. Naturally, I plugged Tucker's name in to see what comes up (doing this using the government's patent search engine is a pretty futile task).

This is a patent for a "combination internal combustion engine and accessories": http://www.google.com/patents?id=rtRjAA ... q=&f=false

"Steering wheel mounted instrument panel": http://www.google.com/patents?hl=en&lr= ... q=&f=false

I hadn't heard of them researching such a thing. I know some cars have had such things, but I can't remember if they were produced before or after the Tucker '48.

"Hydraulic mechanism for actuating valves": http://www.google.com/patents?hl=en&lr= ... q=&f=false That's dated from August 1948, so it looks to me like they were still kicking the idea around after officially planning on launching the cars with the Franklin engine.

"Independent wheel suspension": http://www.google.com/patents/about?id=tpFUAAAAEBAJ

"Fluid pressure operated disk brake": http://www.google.com/patents?id=MdtbAA ... q=&f=false

"Gun control mechanism" :http://www.google.com/patents?id=0zxVAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4#v=onepage&q=&f=false

That's for his turret.

"Gun mounting and control mechanism": http://www.google.com/patents?id=vQdUAA ... q=&f=false

That one's dated 1941, so is presumably an improvement over his previous design.

"Quick disconnect for electrical systems": http://www.google.com/patents?id=w8RFAA ... q=&f=false

"Front wheel spindle bearing and assembly": http://www.google.com/patents?id=rHNfAA ... q=&f=false

"Motor vehicle frame construction": http://www.google.com/patents?id=z3BRAA ... q=&f=false

I've not seen those particular illustrations of the the Tucker frame before.

"Single leaf suspension for automobiles": http://www.google.com/patents?id=kk9xAA ... q=&f=false

"Automobile headlight switch mechanism": http://www.google.com/patents?id=tXNfAA ... q=&f=false

"Suspension frame bumper": http://www.google.com/patents?id=iUVuAA ... q=&f=false

"Warning signal for automobiles": http://www.google.com/patents?id=DSxZAA ... q=&f=false

Translation: Its for the horn.

"Automobile frame suspension": http://www.google.com/patents?id=NYduAA ... q=&f=false

"Engine mounting for automobiles": http://www.google.com/patents?id=gVtjAA ... q=&f=false

"Transmission": http://www.google.com/patents?id=HCxZAA ... q=&f=false

I've just skimmed that one, but it looks like its for the hydraulic drive version and not the ones for the Franklin sourced engine.

"Adjustable speed indicator fob": http://www.google.com/patents?id=hVtjAA ... q=&f=false

That's for a column mounted speedometer.

"Diaphragm operated disk brake": http://www.google.com/patents?id=88JtAA ... q=&f=false

"Automobile dome light": http://www.google.com/patents?id=bzFZAA ... q=&f=false

"Combination steering column support and instrument panel": http://www.google.com/patents?id=HttbAA ... q=&f=false

That looks like the one used in the Tin Goose.

"Collapsible vehicle steering column": http://www.google.com/patents?id=tCpwAA ... q=&f=false

Ah ha! I knew I'd seen the "steering wheel mounted instrument panel" before and here it is!

No clue on the date's for that, so I don't know if Tucker got the idea from them, they got the idea from Tucker or what.

Thanks for posting these. Was the center headlight operated like in the patent? With 3 bulbs inside it instead of making the headlight turn with the wheels?
