Actual Tucker Owners - Looking to buy...

Postby ebres63081 » Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:34 pm

Hello!

I am new member to TACA and have been on the hunt to own an actual car. Bid last year on 1038 and this year on 1041. I've been looking via the auction houses and through a few private sources however overlooked posting an ad on the Tucker club site! Silly me I guess!

Anyways, I am looking to become one of the youngest Tucker owners (30) and plan to be active in the club and diligent at preserving the legacy. So if anyone knows of a car for sale please let me know and based on condition will pay the appropriate market value!

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric. Welcome to the club (and the website). Unfortunately the sale of 1038 has priced many potential buyers out of the market by inflating the price of 1041. We'll see how long this lasts but many cars that were on the verge of being offered for sale before those two cars are now either being held onto, or the asking prices that are being tossed around in small circles are getting very high. There are quite a few people who where prepared to pay the fair market value of a decent car (which was around $500K last year) who are now still looking. Right now, it's probably as much of a sellers' market as it's ever been for Tuckers.

I certainly agree. However like the real estate market and high end car market especially Ferrari's people have said "my property is unique and my area is recession proof." Those sellers have held their prices and missed the boat. I made an offer last year on a beautiful condo in Lake Tahoe. They were asking 689k I offered 650k they wouldn't take it. Today they've lowered the price to 599k but I still see another 15-30% drop before its safe to get back in the water.... But back to the Tucker... 1038 was a 100 point museum piece with known history and limited mileage. 930k hammer on a 100 point car set the bar for what a perfect car currently would cost. If you have a rough car you need to take 930k less restoration costs and that would seem like a fair value. There are several less than stellar cars that are quietly on the market for 1038 prices. But there not selling. I moved my price bar accordingly after 1041. But if I am paying big money I want a turn key car as nice as 1038.... It's funny, as few Tuckers as there are in private hands they still pop up every 6-12 months. Rare but not 1 of 1...!

I agree that the sale of 1038 pushed the price on 1041. However, I believe the purchaser of 1041 purchased one of the most desirable Tucker cars IF he has an interest from time to time in driving the car on the road. I believe Bev's 1041 car, at least up until a couple of years ago, was the most proven roadworthy Tucker car yet regularly on the road (I was amazed when I lived in California how many places Bev drove 1041, including to the TACA convention in San Diego). How many Tucker cars have had changes made to them over time to become really good, proven roadworthy cars? Very few. Many of the changes that evolved on Tucker cars to improve them began on Bill Hamlin's Goldie (1002) or Bev's 1041. If I won a lottery and could pick one Tucker car for my dream drive it would likely be in 1002 or 1041. Just to assure greater peace of mind, however, I would drop by to pick up Richard Jones, ace mechanic, to run shotgun. We'd go get Dave Cammack and then have a really great ride!

...And it would be Cammack's first ride in a Tucker! :D
