Bev Ferreira #41 Tucker For Sale

Postby markebner » Mon May 11, 2009 9:32 pm

Hoping you might be able to help us - we are handling the estate of Bev Ferreira in San Francisco selling his extensive collection of automotive parts and memorabilia as well as his 1948 Tucker along with the 2nd engine and many boxes of Tucker parts, etc.

We were hoping that someone might help us to advertise on your Tucker website the sale of the car, engine and parts along with almost 1000 NOS parts, manuals, etc. from late 1930's to 80's.

Thought Tucker folks would be interested first. He loved his club.

Thanks in advance for all of your help,

Guess I'll have to break open my piggybank or sell one of my Tucker convertibles.

Nice article on the car on this site:

http://www.autowire.net/1999-31.html

It appears the car will be auctioned on June 7th:

Also an ad is in Hemmings:

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/car ... 53155.html

Here are a few stories about Ferreira and things he shared about the car over the years.

Bev Ferreira passed away on the weekend of February 14 2009. Bev and his wife, Dorothy, were married for 22 years. Dorothy passed away
on July 31, 2008. In a conversation with Bev about his 1948 Tucker, Bev related that he and Dorothy drove the Tucker down to southern
California on occasion. On one trip, Bev was reminicesing about how he was cruising along I-5 when a CHP officer pulled up beside him and
indicated with his hand that Bev should slow down… just a warning. Bev checked the speedometer, and the Tucker was doing a very smooth
80 MPH.

Bev and Dorothy Ferreira of San Francisco drove their Tucker, No. 41 quite often. Bev Ferreira, was a retired mechanic and auto parts store
owner. He paid $5,000 for his Tucker. “That was a lot of money in 1970,” he said. It had been on display at the Sutro Baths, which were being
dismantled. When he bought it, “I never even knew what a Tucker was,” he said. He restored it, repainted it (“I don’t like a black car”) and
had driven it 33,000 miles in the past three decades. Ferreira, his Tucker and his Indian police motorcycle all appeared in the “Tucker” movie.
It wasn’t memorable for the lifelong San Franciscan. “Too damn much sitting around,” he said.

That was Bev Ferreira's Tucker on the cover of Collectible Automobile July 1985.

Any guesses on how much it goes for at the auction this Sunday?

My guess is $525,000 and there is a specific person bidding whom I really hope gets it.

Today is the big day the car gets sold! Will it crack a million? This is an excellent car
and although it's not an original color, it sure looks good. Ferreira did a great job with
the car mechanically making several modifications.

#1041 was sold today for ....

Postby Tucker Fan 48 » Sun Jun 07, 2009 3:46 pm

Bev Ferreira's beloved Tucker # 1041 sold at the Clars Auction today for $750.000.00
Clars adds a buyers premium of 21% of the first $70,000 and 13% for anything above that
which brings the total price for todays sale of the car to $853,100.00 + sales tax
The car was on the auction block for a total of 7 1/2 minutes

No information is available as to the lucky new owners identity.

Ferreira paid $5,000 for the car in 1970 so you can see it pays to own a Tucker !

With all due respect to Bev and the new owner, that is A LOT of money for that car. One can only hope it did not go to another museum to die.

Wow! That was kinda high. That bumper and some of the other things could be fixed. Question that comes to my mind, "why don't they fix the bumper?".

I guess I'm torn between it going to a museum or a collector. In many cases the museum cars do just die there
but at least we can see them. Many of the cars in private collections are not doing much better. With the
value of the cars going up and up, it's not likely we'll see many of them on the road anymore either. Not many
people will want to take their million car to the local cruise night. We'll probably start to see more of them
leaving the country as Sheiks and Princes add more cars to their collections. Soon all we may have left are a few
museum cars wasting away to look at.

I don't think $835,000 is too high for the car, considering it has a decent history that we know of. It was worth the price despite the wear and tear for a 61 year old car. The bumper damage is kind of impressive if you think about it. There is not too many that can sustain a hit like that, right on the apex, and not deform the rest of bumper! I think that tells you something about just how well a Tucker was built! The car looks good the way it is, but it could benefit from a restoration to return it to it's former (black) glory. I'm still not sure I would even fix the bumper! It just gives it character and shows that Bev was NOT afraid to drive it, like it was/is intended! Although i'm not sure which ones, I recall there is a few Tucker's with in excess of 100,000 miles on them without ANY work done to the engine at all.
If you didn't get dirty, then nothing was accomplished!
