Tucker 1016

Postby Ace Barker » Sun Mar 29, 2009 12:08 pm

I was in the Detroit area and able to run by the Henry Ford museum. I have some phone photos from my cell phone and scanned a elongated Tucker penny I got at the museum. I have a question. This is the only black Tucker I have seen. Is this car an unrestored original?

Thanks!

I believe that the Detroit News bought this particular car, then donated it to the museum, but I could be wrong. The signs near the Tucker tell about that. When the TACA club went to visit it last summer, the overhead spotlights were out for some reason, and that made it hard to see the car very well. You might have discovered that it's very difficult to get a satisfactory photo of the car, the way it's displayed at the museum.

Yes you are correct. I did read that a newspaper bought it and donated. It looks very original and hence my question about its unrestored originality. The lights were on and I only had my phone camera. It’s OK for what it is but not the greatest. The penny was a good souvenir.

Ace,

You are right, #1016 is a very original example. HFM has now owned this car for over 50 years... And it hasn't moved much in most of that time!
