Tucker In Stone Mountain GA

Postby Ace Barker » Thu Mar 19, 2009 3:44 pm

I saw in the Atlanta newspaper the owner that had the museum at Stone Mountain is closing the museum and selling the cars. I didn't see his green Tucker listed. I also don't see it listed in the "See a Tucker". I used to have pictures of the car when it was in the museum. Does anyone know what number it was and where it went? There is another Tucker in the neighboring town of Tucker, GA.I haven't seen it.

Thanks

It was number 1015 I believe. The pics under "see a Tucker" are of it still in the Museum at Stone Mountain. They have a public preview on Friday 12-6pm and the auction is Sat and Sunday. Hope this helps.

Thanks! What threw me off is it reads it's in St. Clair Shores, MI but I have been to the museum and the photos are from the Stone Mountain museum. I guess it has been sold to the Stahls collection. In today's AJC, it didn't mention the Tucker as an item for sale.

What is odd is that I met the owner at the museum about two years ago. He let me take some shots in the car with my then newborn "Tucker", and he said that he was going to take the Tucker to his grave and sell off the rest. I guess money can change a persons mind. It just sucks that it is now a Tucker that isn't local to me anymore to go and dream about.

Looks like Tucker 1034 lives in Tucker, GA. Its not being shown there are photos of it. It is curious about 1015. I saw it a few years ago. You are correct. Maybe the money was right.

After he closed the museum, Tommy Protsman sold a group of cars to Mark Hyman (St Louis dealer who also sold 1006 for Lieberman). 1015 was in that group of cars. The Tucker was then sold to Mr. Stahl who notified the club of his purchase. It's good to know that it's gone to an owner who will continue to share it with others.

1034 does show up in public every now and then. Occasionally it can be spotted in the Cofer Brothers parking lot. Your best bet to see it is usually on Tucker Day. This year it's being held on May 9th. It used to head the parade but lately they've had it sitting at the corner on Main with the Tucker Historical Society or such. Seeing that car has been the highlight of my Tucker Day since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I have so many pictures next to it. The pictures on this site of it aren't very up to date as there's a large dent in the right rear fender which you don't see in the older pictures. If I can dig up the story of how he got the car I'll post it. I hope it gets cleaned up next time they show it. I was just bidding on some of the Tucker items at the Stone Mountain auction and it seems the love of the car is still alive and well. My main goal was the lot with the Tucker flashlight, hat, clocks, belt buckles, etc. It ended up going for $500. The Tucker radio went for I think $1,500.

Thanks for the information. I will do what I can to see it on that day. It will be nice to have a few more pictures of the Tuckers. Now if I can find out what happened to my other photos from Stone Mountain (1015) and in Reno (1032).

Tuckerloverintucker,

I was also in attendance today and was bidding on the radio and the lot with the invitation. I hate that I lost them both, but I guess you have to pay big to play with the big boys huh?

The Kroger in Tucker used to have a huge mural of the Cofer's Tucker. Haven't been in to see if it's still there since they redid the store
