If Tucker Built an X-Prize Car

The Progressive Auto X-Prize offers a $10 million purse to someone who can build a production worthy car that gets over 100 MPG. Lots of companies have sprung up to build a car that they think can win the prize. One company, Lightning Hybrids, is planning on building a hydraulic hybrid. For those of you playing at home, that, essentially, is what Tucker wanted to do with his car.

Now, take a look at some of their concept car renderings. The rear of it, besides harking back to the "split window" 'Vette, also hints at one of Tucker's original concepts. The side profile, including the hubcaps, strongly, IMHO, hints at Alex Tremulis' concept for the Tucker Talisman, which was sadly never built.

Poking around on their site, I can't find any references to Tucker, so I'm guessing that its just a coincidence.

So, they've taken the prototype out for a spin: http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/07/03 ... -the-road/

To my ears, the engine doesn't sound all that different that 1038's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMQtfVNgkeg
