Was there a Tucker kit or replica?

Postby The13bats » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:17 am

Greetings,
I am new here but no stranger to the Tucker, I have admired both the car and the man since I was a youngster,
I almost got to see a Tucker at Old Town many years back but my 66 Vette thought that would be the right day to eat a rod bearing, so I had to limp home, engine banging like a jack hammer.
My backgroup is over 30 years or Vettes kits and customs one of my loved is what I call "Grass roots kit cars" some people call them VW kits others call them junk...lol :?
I even have a group for such cars,
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/GrassRootsKitCars/

But my reason for being here is a bit of cross over, the Subject of the Tucker came up on one of my Kit forums, I seem to recall in one of the kit magazines many years ago was word they were going to make a Tucker Replica or "kit car"
I know a few of the cars in the film were fakes, the rolled over car wasn't even a very good fake IMHO,

So was there ever any Replicas that the general public could buy?
If not with the resale price of these cars wouldn't one think their would be a market,

Many thanks
Cheers,
P.

Robert Ida sells one, and Chick DeLorenzo used to (I don't know if he still does or not). Ida's were pretty pricey as I recall, around $35K or so.

I think you will find that Ida has never sold a body. Yes I know one was listed on E-Bay but it was removed. They will sell a complete replica but not a body.

Chick has sold bodies.

Also keep in mind that there is no kit just a raw body that was sold. Everything else would have to be supplied by the buyer of the body. The body would have to be finished before being painted.
