Tucker Suspension

Postby jay 1124 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 9:45 pm

The question came up on the Antique Truck Historical Society forums today as to whether or not the Tucker automobile used a De Dion type rear suspension. I can find nothing that indicates that it did. Can anyone tell me for certain? Thanks

While the Tucker has univeral joints on it's rear half-shafts (drive axles), and both rear wheels are independently sprung as is characteristic of a de Dion-type suspension, I believe it lacks the beam which connects to and holds the two wheels parallel. But my time spent under Tucker cars has been brief, I may have missed something, and there are variations on the suspensions (though not always original). But based on what I think I know, I would say that while the two designs are similar, the Tucker does not have a "true" de Dion-type suspension.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was thinking but I am not sure whether the cross arm was a part of all De Dion suspensions or just some of them. Perhaps someone else will check in on this. Jay
