Tucker Employee - Who was Mark J. Mourne???

Postby huffreport » Sat Dec 11, 2004 12:10 pm

Hi all,

New user here... I've posted some Tucker stuff on my website recently, and so I thought I'd register here and post a note... I have some weird Tucker stuff that I bought a while back, and I'm curious about what some of this stuff actually is... (?) For instance, I have a resignation letter on the Tucker letterhead, but I have no idea who this person was. It only says "Secretary" at the bottom... Maybe someone out there can fill me in on the details. BTW, this is only a temporary feature on my site, so if you are reading this within a couple of weeks after this post (Dec 11, 2004) then the images may be gone.... Thanks in advance,
Don't know who Mark J. Mourne is and I haven't run into his name in any of my material. Each Department Head had a Secretary so he could have been a Secretary for any number of people. He was not Preston Tucker's Secretary as that title was held by De De Jordan.
Mark Mourne

Mark Mourne was indeed Secretary of the Corporation. Mourne, an attorney, was a cousin to Preston Tucker. I believe he became affiliated with the company in December 1946 and resigned in December 1947 (you must have the date on the letter to verify this for me). He was the third or fourth person to testify in the criminal trial. He caused a mistrial when he let slip Abe Karsten's criminal past (Karsten was a co-defendant). I do not believe Mourne played a critical role with the new company (he was gone before Alex Tremulis completed his original sketch of what was to become the Tin Goose). Still, because he was there in the very early days and was a cousin to Preston Tucker, he had to witness a good deal of the original work in launching the company.
Incidentally, while De De Jordan was Mr. Tucker's Executive Secretary, I do not believe she was ever Secretary of the Corporation (I believe Preston Tucker, Jr. might have had the title of Secretary of the Corporation for some later time while his father was yet President).
Larry,
Thanks for setting me straight on this. I was only looking at Department Secretaries, not at Corporation Secretaries. Never thought to look further.
