Statement on Porn Postings - Or Decreasing Instances Thereof

Funny that I am reposting this and it is from exactly a year ago. Tis the season I guess.

I am aware of the problems we are having lately with pornographic and otherwise inappropriate postings. These seem to come in waves and despite my best efforts, there is no 100% way to prevent them.

Here is what we currently do:

1. Registration on the Board requires visual confirmation. That is the box with the messed up letters/numbers that you have to type in. This is meant to stop spambots, or automated spammers.

2. Registration requires that you click on a link in an email to activate your account.

3. There is a modification in the Message Board Code to prevent postings that take less than 5 seconds. You can try this - just try to make a posting as fast as possible. If it takes you less than 5 seconds, it will reject your post. Again, this is to reduce the spambots.

4. Certain email address domains are banned. I try to find patterns in what email addresses and domains the spammers use, and ban them.

I have tried days of manually reviewing every registration request that comes in. So instead of the system sending the automatic confirmation email to the user, it sends it to me and I have to approve.

This does not work for a couple reasons. First, I do not have time to manually review the 25-50 registrations I was getting each day. Second, this dissuades legitimate users from posting on this Forum. If someone has to wait for me to approve their registration, the chances they'll return to post is greatly decreased.

So we are left manually battling the posts to the best of our abilities. TuckerFan1053 and I check the Board as often as possible and delete all questionable postings.

While we might not get to them immediately, rest assured that we will delete them as soon as we see them.

- Please do no reply to the post. This accomplishes nothing.

- Please do not send me Private Messages telling me to delete the posts. I have a full-time job so people telling me I am not donating enough of my free time to the Board just irriates me.

All that said, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
