ok, here I am trying to get help build my car. I have built what I have out of metal and showing you all it can be done. I will have this car built and nothing will stop me but all I ask for is some help on what parts to use. I know some of you know what Tucker used on his car when he built it. Here are many people saying about building a Tucker and nothing ever happens till now. It would be nice if there were any ideas here on what some parts can be used. Where did the speaker grill came from? What speedometer can I use? What other car had the same seats? Where can I find information to build a frame? What motor can I use on the back? I am using as many original parts I can get my hands on like door handles, radio, dash, etc. If I had the money I would buy a Tucker but since I don't I am doing all my best and putting lots of love and time into this project. Wouldn't you like to be helped yourself if you were doing something?

Parts

Postby SuperFleye » Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:58 am

Then we are two :)
I'm looking for the same information too, for my Movie Replica!
I have made a small list of interchangable parts myself, so I will put this up on this board, and then maybe we can extend it in common! Hehe, just found out the other day in another thread that the gear selecter is the same as the ones used in 1937 Cords... and that is a progress! I have allways thought that the selector was one of the hardest parts to make! I'll post it my list here after work!

Parts

Postby SuperFleye » Tue Mar 04, 2008 6:54 pm

OK, here are some of my founds:

Brake Drums
-Kelsey Hayes
ßThose made for the first 25 cars had groves in the outside of them to allow for extra cooling. Those made for the rest of the cars were smooth on the outside. Each drum is stamped KH. Tucker brake drums were the exact same size front and rear.

Steering wheel
-Steering wheel on all Tucker’s was given to Tucker by Lincoln. Similar on 1946-48 (1941) Lincoln. 18” in diameter.

Horn ring
-The horn ring was modified by Tucker Corp. by cutting off the upper portion of the ring. The horn button mounted in this horn ring is slightly bigger than the horn buttons Tucker had made. So in order to mount the horn button with the Tucker crest into the Lincoln horn ring, the horn button on the car was cut out then the Tucker horn button was super glued into the old horn button. Apparently Tucker had new horn rings coming from somewhere that the new horn button would have fitted into properly. Most of the cars did not have a horn button when they were assembled as Tucker had not received them from the manufacturer. Most cars had plain horn button with nothing on it. Other had the Tucker family crest.

Gauge cluster
-Stewart Warner design

Taillight lense
- 1941 dodge

Interior door handle
-Jeep push button

Hub caps
-There were two different style of Tucker hubcaps produced. One had the Tucker logo on them, the other had the Tucker family crest. The ones with the family crest had slots cut in them to allow for cooling of the disk brakes that Tucker had proposed to put on the car.

Center headlight
-The center Pilot Ray headlight is numbered but it has no bearing on the serial number of the car. On Tucker's Serial Number 1001 through 1025 this light was controled by linkage from the left front wheel. On cars above 1025 the light was controled by cable from the right front wheel. The earlier set up was definitely a better arrangement however it was more costly. Micro switches in back of the bulb controlled when the light would go on and off. These could be adjusted if necessary. The headlights had to be on high beam and the steering wheel turned 10 degrees off center for light to come on.

If anyone have more or additional info on what I hve written above, please post it. Most of what I just put here are propably cut and paste from other posts on this board.

Ricardo, we are sure you are aware that we the proud owners of Tucker #17. We cannot believe the excellent job you are doing building a "Tucker" under a tree. We will gladly help you in any way we can by sharing detailed pictures of 17. Since it was used by the Franklin Mint as an example to make a model, the details are surely correct. Let us know if we can be of assistance. We gladly share #17 with anyone interested in Tuckers since we know that not everyone is fortunate enough to have one in their showroom. We can be reached at ejo1932@yahoo.com

Do anyone have any ideas on how I can build a frame for my body which I can mount a Tucker engine on the back of the car. I have been wanting to make a frame for it but not much luck with ideas. What kind of "A" arms on the front? What kind of suspension on the back of the car will work? I know Yoke?? or some name like that of a shop made the frame for 1057 but I don't have that kind of money to get a frame made.

Do anyone know what the parking brake handle came from? I have been looking for one for many months and I have had no luck on finding one.

I would like the members of the Tucker Club to know that I fully support Ricardo in his Tucker project. I have never personally met Ricardo, but plan to do so when we go to LA to pick up our Fascination which is on display at The Petersen Museum. I am in contact at least on a monthly basis with Ricardo sending him detailed pictures and detailed measurements of our Tucker #17. I wish him the best and I will continue to provide him with any and all measurements and pictures that will help him. At this point, he is becoming a "penpal."

This goes along with our theory that we must share #17 because we are one of the few lucky ones to have "Preston" in our showroom with many of the original items associated with the car. We have also provided pictures of the Tucker sitting on a SwissTrax floor (SwissTrax Flooring Company) and they have used that picture in their advertising brochures and materials.

I am still working on this project while I have fun with the other topics here. I have not added photos but the body is about 75% complete as of this day. Just wanted to let you all know this work is still in progress and will not stop till I finish it. I hope to have it done before the year is over.
