Gary,
Engine oil straight 30 or 40 Weight.Do not use a 10W30 or10W40.Crankcase 7 quarts.
Radiator 26 quarts. Make sure if the vehicle is going to be stored in freezing weather that you open the two petcocks underneath the vehicle. There is one petcock in each head. They must be drained along with the radiator to insure all the fluid is drained. I have een too many heads cracked because the owner did not know of these two petcocks. Draining the radiator is not enough.
Gear box oil 90 weight.
Ignition timing, will have to dig in my notes for the correct timing.
Fuel Pump is A C Model B and has part nos. of 9072 also 855228AC.
The suspension will be your real problem. Those torsilastic units can be adjusted only a short amount but considering the age of this car and if the units have not been rerubbered you may have to send them off to have new rubber put in them. Then again, I am not sure that you have an original setup in 1049 so I cannot say what needs to be done to the suspension.
Parts also will be a big problem. While most mechanical and electrical parts were shared with various manufacturers of US cars they can be hard to find.
There was never an official shop manual printed by Tucker Corporation however several years ago Russ Brownell made up a manual that may be available out there. Russ passed away and I am told the manual is out of print.
Will get back with you later when I find my notes on the timing.

Gary,
The timing mark is on the balance ring below the water pump. There is a pointer that should point to the balance ring. Timing 10 Degrees BTC on "Retard" and 40 degrees BTC on "Advance".
The firing order is 1-4-5-2-3-6 . Odd on the left, even on the right.

Gary, for the electrical system, the car probably still has the old cloth covered wires. You can, I think, buy bulk wiring that looks identical to the original stuff, but is much safer. For sources for the various components (relays, etc.) that you might need, if you can find a copy of Hemmings Motor News on your side of the pond, it should have suppliers listed, and if you can post photos over at the Hemmings forums: http://forums.hemmings.com/ you can probably get someone to identify what it is (if you can't figure it out).

Check eBay for copies of the Tucker technical manual, since it's currently out of print, and copies some times show up there. You might also look for a copy of The Indomitable Tin Goose by Charles T. Pearson, as it does have some information on the engine and the like in it. You can order copies of the overhaul manual for the Franklin 335 engine (which is what the Tucker's engine is based on): http://www.esscoaircraft.com/Franklin_O ... s/6896.htm

Please keep us posted on how the restoration goes.

wiring

Postby Tom » Fri Aug 31, 2007 3:15 pm

For a wiring harness try Rhode Island Wiring Works they have a thing called the stuff sheet its to there knowledge all right. But it tells ya were to place the wires almost like a instruction manual, the complete harness is about 300 american dollars. Hope this helps. Also you can get tons of new parts from NAPA, Orielly's, Auto Zone, Chiefs if there still in business and I want to say Checker auto parts and Advance Auto parts too just check out there web site and go to search and type in part number which are in the Tech manual.
